VA Benefits - any tips for application?

I am ready to apply for VA benefits for my Mom to help pay for her assisted

living. Just wondering if anyone who has been through this has any tips for me?

How much did you send with the first application? Did you just fill out the two

forms from their web page and then send additional information later? I was in

contact with someone who sent me 5-6 different forms and a checklist. He wanted

me to go with his lawyers but we already have a lawyer, so I can't really ask

him for advice. Could someone also outline the whole process? How long does it

take? My Mom's doctor is also going to write a letter, but she asked for

additional pages she had got from someone in the past and they sound like the

exact ones I got from the man I had contacted.
