Guest guest
Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anyone on the lists has a thick, white discharge. I don't know how long I have had this discharge for, but the past two times I have gone to the doctors, they have both pointed it out, but when they culture it, no yeast shows up. I just finished taking Nizoral, an antifungal, for 20 days so I am sure that it isn't yeast, but I do think that it could be something. Maybe someone else has the problem too? I don't think that it is the cause of my burning, but I am sure that it accentuates the pain. Hope everyone had a painfree weekend! Guest guest
From Deb at DLitzFletc@... , Are you going for a recheck after the Nozoril? It could be that that has swung your imbalance the other way and you now have a bacterial overgrowth. It happen to me last summer after three consecutive doses of Diflucan. I can't remember the bacteria I ended up with but it started with a g, with thick, white, sticky discharge. I always hate going back in for the rechecks but in our case maybe better safe than sorry. Guest guest
Christy, YES! I have this discharge too! Thick, white, non-ordourous(sweet not sour, if anything) and it goes away with my period. My docs, all eleven of them before I found the one who specializes in VV, diagnosed it as a heavy white blood cell discharge absent of yeast. I have been informed that it is a hormonal change and nothing that can be done about it but I am sure that it causes most of my symptoms of VV since they were quite mild before this discharge started showing up. I have had this since 96 and keep getting the same response. Do you have any suggestions as to how to get the docs to take a closer look and really nail down what it is? I *highly* believe it attributes to my VV.....I even went off of the pill in December to see if the discharge is hormonal and nothing happened. Take care and keep me posted if you know of a way to get a more accurate diagnosis! MailTo:ZipSkpChia@...
Guest guest
Dear Christy and , I'm always interested when someone mentions discharge, as this occurred to me early on when everything seemed to start going wrong (approximately 18 months ago). It's interesting because discharge doesn't get mentioned on these lists as often as burning and pain. Also, I can't say that mine is white per se, but it's sort of a milky clear and I don't always have it. When I mentioned the problem repeatedly to my doctor/nurse practioner over the past year or so, the reply would always be the same.....no yeast, no bacteria, no nothing. And I can't say that it's often heavy, just sort of wet.....if you get my drift. I have mentioned to the nurse practioner that I feel " wet " often (and I know it's not urine) and she says just wait, as I get closer to menopause I'll feel dry and I won't like that either! I said I'd like to try the dry, it couldn't be much worse. Anyway, I was interested in what was said about blood cells or whatever that was. Maybe my problem doesn't have anything to do with yeast. All I know is that it is uncomfortable, and when it does pick up often the burning does, too. And I never had vulvar pain prior to 18 months ago. The nurse practioner said the next step was referral to a gyn. I'm not sure if I am particularly thrilled about that, either. Anyway, I am feeling very sorry for myself because we have 8 boxes of Girl Scout cookies in the house and I can't even have one! Oh well, Feel free to e-mail me directly, we can share more info. I am currently trying to follow (again) the restrictive no-yeast diet (no bread, pasta, dairy, only one fruit per day and by itself). I managed to get 10 Diflucan tablets from the nurse practioner, but when I went to the pharmacy, they looked very surprised and said " your insurance won't cover this " . We haven't seen this dosage before. This is very embarassing when ten people are behind you and both pharmacists come out and are conferring together and looking at me like I have a strange disease. The upshot is that I got enough to take once a week for 4 weeks, then I get 4 more for 4 weeks, and then 2 more for two weeks. I'm not sure if this will help me, but I am trying to remain optimistic....it certainly is more than I have received before. LOL! Kathy KGGRY@... Guest guest
Hi . I think I can relate to your discharge. I have noticed something like that myself, wondered whether it was yeast, and thought it was probably hormonal/cycle related. Do you have it all the time? Guest guest
Christy, My doctor has told me that the discharge if it comes mid cycle is the mucous lug that every gets. Is it clear and slimy? Does it stretch? Then this s the musous plug. Your friend Michele D
Guest guest
: Vaginal discharge changes in thickness, color and consistency as women go through their cycle. Sometimes I do get thicker, milkier discharge. Sometimes the witish discharge is like egg-white. It varies. However, if your thick white discharge is clumpy like cottage cheese - you very well might have a yeast infection. If it has a fishy odor, you might have something bacterial. Anyway - sometimes our discharge gets whiter and thicker near ovulation. Good luck, Heidi

Guest guest
Yeast is a result of the vagina not being acidic enough. For example, during our periods, the pH of our vagina becomes more basic. Baking soda is basic. Therefore, yeast will flourish in a basic environment. Do not use baking soda if you are worried about yeast. Hope that helps.....Christy

Guest guest
Boy am I glad others get confused by pH. I, too, can never remember which is which. What I am wondering, if yeast is or can be a culprit, is taking a bath in baking soda good or not good? Just to add to the confusion! Guest guest
From what I''ve learned, baking soda would *incourage* the growth of yeast. It should be used if you have an excess of lactobacillus, like I have now. It is the opposite of a yeast infection. Unfortunately, the things that can be used to change PH can also irritate the vaginal tissue. Baking soda seems to do this to me, and makes my vaginal tissue turn bright red! I hope I haven't made this issue even more confusing. Guest guest
Christy, I, too had the heavy white discharge for a long time after VV started. It would burn my vulva tissue like battery acid. My doc suggested Depo-Provera to shut down my whole system meaning I have no periods. This has helped me greatly and I file it under for pelvic pain so my insurance pays for it. It sure isn't for birth control!! It totally stopped the discharge. Daina (DHC1962@...)
Guest guest
Sandi, I had it exactly as you described it. For me it looked like someone had taken ricotta cheese and stuffed it into my vagina. I hate to be so gross and graphic but that's exactly what it looked like. What is your doctor's training in yeast? I'm telling you all your symptoms sound like a yeast problem to me. Robin Discharge From: SandiSharp@... Hi all, I know this is a gross topic, but I have a discharge that I never had before this problem. It is thick, white and very elastic. I know that discharge is supposed to increase at ovulation, but this is so much it is nothing like before. No doctors seem concerned about this. No yeast or bacteria cultures out. Does anyone else with vv or vvs have this problem? What have your doctors said? Thanks Sandi ------------------------------------------------------------------------ New hobbies? New curiosities? Guest guest
Dee/All, As time went on my discharge changed from the ricotta cheese stuff to the clear egg white looking stuff with a slight whitish tinge to it. So it's hard to tell but I think as time went on my body was SLOWLY correcting itself and undoing all the damage caused by antibiotics. Robin Discharge Hi all, In regards to Sandi and Robins post, I've got a question? If its (the discharge) elastic like Sandy said, do you mean 'stringy, like egg white? If so, I don't think its anything to worry about. Or is like the cottage/ricotta cheeze, like hunks or bits like Robin said? If so, then I'd say almost 100% sure its a yeast infection. Makes a big difference. Warmest Regards, Dee~ dtroll@... -----Original Message----- Sandi, I had it exactly as you described it.
