Guest guest
Hi Dee, I have problems sleeping as well. I use a lot of pillows and I most definitely sleep better on a waterbed. As for the pain's in my hips, yes I get those too. Mostly the left. I don't know if it is Chiari related or not. I haven't been able to find a competent doctor yet. I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I keep all of you guys in my prayers and will continue praying for all. Guest guest
Hi Ms Fighead, I wish I could answer your question. I'm type II not type I, and don't take insulin. If I ate that oatmeal for breakfast it would cause me a bg surge which in turn would cause an insulin surge, then I would be hungry - make that ravenous. If I perservered and didn't eat, I would eventually have a low. It sounds like your insulin dose needs some fine tuning. If your doctor won't return your calls you need to build a fire under that office. Your calls should be returned - if it isn't an emergency it might not be returned til the next day, but it is inexcusable for them not to be returned in a timely manner. Maybe this is a problem with the office staff or maybe it is with the doctor. When you do see him/her, you should discuss it with them and if the matter isn't settled to your satisfaction you might want to look for another doctor. This is your health and you are paying (and a lot!) for that doctor to help you with it. Meenie Hi everyone Ive been a bit busy lately so I havent talked much but I have a question. in the past 3 weeks I have been pretty regular with my insulin and getting in down to normal levels. I started a new job a month ago and have gotten into a new routine. I take my normal dose of insulin after testing. my morning sugar is between 80 and 130. So I take 17 R and 17 N and the eat a bowl of regular oatmeal with 1% milk and splenda and a large mug of hot tea with splenda, which I take with me to work. In the last week or so I have had a low BS at around 11:15 in the morning which Im getting better at catching before it goes too low. but this morning I had a low at 9:45 after eating the same thing at the same time of day. I dropped the dose of regular down to 14 R and 17 N this morning just to avoid a low at 11am and it came in earlier. I dont get it. Of course a low for me is 100 since I have been in the 500's until the past month. I even had a 58 at 3 am last week then on at 11 am in the same day. I was worn out by noon, just exusted. I havent done anymore exercise than usual, I work sitting down most of the day. Any idea why I would have a low so early and how I can level this off better because after lunch at 11:30 I have a high of 3:45 or so at 2:30pm. Im trying to count the carbs and cut them where I can. Ive learned to drink Crystal light and Diet Lipton tea, still cant do diet soda(yuck). I have tried to talk to my dr but I am playing phone tag and my next appointment is not till the end of the month and These lows and highs cant be good for me. If nothing else Im so tired after lunch Its hard to get through the rest of the day. Ive started carrying NoDoze to get through the day. Any suggestions would be welcome. Guest guest
Hi Pat, I think I heard it could take a month for glucophage to work. I felt the same as you when I started on it. But it does take time. If you feel uncomfortable, call your doctor. They had to put me on a combination of medication, and I'm still trying to find control. Guest guest
Hi, Thank you for your reply. I raise goats and work outside a lot but I need to get on a regular exercise routine. I know when my BG are up I get moving and walk it help's. It may still take time for the Medication to work so I will wait till the end of next and see if it goes down. I haven't been able to chew quite right either so maybe that is a factor as well. Thank you Pat
Guest guest
I found this on the Glucophage web site: Loss of control of blood glucose ‹ When a patient stabilized on any diabetic regimen is exposed to stress such as fever, trauma, infection, or surgery, a temporary loss of glycemic control may occur. At such times, it may be necessary to withhold GLUCOPHAGE or GLUCOPHAGE XR and tem-porarily administer insulin. GLUCOPHAGE or GLUCOPHAGE XR may be reinstituted after the acute episode is resolved. The effectiveness of oral antidiabetic drugs in lowering blood glucose to a targeted level decreas-es in many patients over a period of time. This phenomenon, which may be due to progression of the underlying disease or to diminished responsiveness to the drug, is known as secondary failure, to distinguish it from primary failure in which the drug is ineffective during initial therapy. Should secondary failure occur with either GLUCOPHAGE or GLUCOPHAGE XR or sulfonylurea monother-apy, combined therapy with GLUCOPHAGE or GLUCOPHAGE XR and sulfonylurea may result in a response. Should secondary failure occur with combined GLUCOPHAGE/sulfonylurea therapy or GLUCOPHAGE XR/sulfonylurea therapy, it may be necessary to consider therapeutic alternatives including initiation of insulin therapy. Hi, I need to ask a question. I started on Glucophage a week ago. Now my BG is higher then it has ever been. I cannot get it down passed 198 no matter what I do. My BG usually runs 145 - 190 never this high for this long. I had a lot of dental work done so I don't if it is stress or what. Any suggestions? Guest guest
Hi : Sorry that you are going through a bad time. If your doctor decides that you should go back on medication, perhaps a discussion with him/her about a drug other than Glucophage might be in order. I am not yet on meds but my doctor originally had said if I do need to go on meds, he would put me on Glucophage. The last time I saw him (4/27), I discussed all the negative side effects of Glucophage that I had read about with him. He said that he would be willing to negotiate if and when the time comes. Thank goodness it hasn't arrived yet! I have heard of people taking Actos who have gotten good results with none of the intestinal upset that is common with Glucophage. It might be worth a discussion. Good luck. Carol Warman ______________________________________________________________ > I am having a bad two days actually.
