Guest guest
Migraine medication is very hard on your liver. Have you ever considered a gentle detox program. All my early treatment for CSF/Fibro was alternative. I have had migraines but certainly not as many as you are having. The naturopathic theory of migraines is much different than the medical one. I was told and I have come to believe that migraines are the body's attempt to throw off toxins. If I get a migraine it is time to slow down my detox program. Please be careful with what ever you do but taking migraine medication every day to " prevent " migraines might not be the best course of action for anyone with CFS. ann ________________________________ Subject: Daily Medications for Migraines Hello Everyone - I have been challenged by migraines for quite some time. I take Treximet as needed. I usually get 3 - 4 a month that last about three days at a time. After a recent one that was really bad that required me to see a different doctor, this doctor recommended that I take a daily medication to reduce the frequency and severity of the migraines. She prescribed Propanolol for me to take at night. After six weeks of taking it, I'm not sure it's the right medication for me.

Guest guest
.... > Is there a daily medication you are taking to reduce your migraines that you recommend? Any other recommendations to minimize migraines? ... > > Thank you in advance for all of your help. > > Anne Hi Anne, I developed headaches in my late 30s which, over the years, turned into excruciating migraines in my mid-40s. Sixth doctor I saw for migraines handed me a prescription for Imitrex (by needle, only way it was available in the '90s) and told me to take 400 mg of magnesium. I never needed another Imitrex prescription. A member of Costco (then Priceclub), I bought a combo pill of Kirkland's potassium (33 mg, 1/45th of RDA), and 1/3 the RDA of magnesium, calcium, Vitamin D. The supplement instructions were to take 3 a day. I took one combo pill with each meal and one month later, no more migraines. Of course I still take magnesium, calcium and potassium and vitamin D. But, I took a break from all supplements for a couple years. Still, no migraines. Apparently, with regular usage of these essential electrolytes, build-up of electrolytes takes place in the muscles. Continuing to take electrolytes causes blood levels of essential nutrients to remain stable. When blood levels in essential electrolytes dip, blood then seeks them, extracts them from muscles. If anybody else had tried to suggest I take 400 mg of magnesium a day, I would not have believed it could help my excruciating migraines. My doctor's advice to take 400 mg of magnesium included no promises. But the results of following doctors' advice were, pain-wise, spectacular. Guest guest
Hi ann and EveryOne, I've been reading Dr. Fuhrman's book, " Fasting and Eating For Health " and he writes a lot about toxins causing various issues including Migraine, Cancer, Heart Disease etc. I highly recommend reading this book to anyone interested in feeling better without taking more drugs. It is full of scientific references and his own experiences treating thousands of patients. Whether or not you end up following his eating plan the information in the book is good to know. Guest guest
Thank you for your reply. You have great memory of what you have tried and the results you have seen. I have been trying a magnesium supplement but have not had results like you describe. I'll have to look into the supplement that you described. Guest guest
You have an excellent point. I do worry about my liver with the prescriptions, supplements and OTC medications that I take. I will look more into a detox for the liver. The one I tried in the past did me more harm than good but there must be more than one out there. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
