My daughter used her Kineret when she woke up...well, after 30 min. or so. It

is fine from 15-90 minutes out of the fridge. She tried rx numbing spray, ice,

etc. and none really helped her with the injection pain. She was on it for

quite a few years quite successfully....good luck!!

Kineret morning or evening?

I finally got the medication today, I just can't decide if I should do mornings

or before bed, can you tell me which one you have done?

I got into the habit of taking mine right before bed, as I generally feel

better when I'm ready for bed than I am when I wake up. It seems to take me

a minimum of an hour to get to the point where I can " move " in the morning,

and that isn't too consistent! I also have time to let it " warm-up " if I

take it at night, as I'll place it on the counter 15-20 minutes before I'm

ready to inject it.

Hello,

My daughter takes her Kineret shot close to bedtime that way she is sleeping

when there are any side affects. She warms up the shot, we put it in the croock

of our elbow and it brings it up to room temp and and a little warmer that way

which helps with the injection site irritation. Do you think the medication go

warm in the mail? If so, it is better to be safe and check out when it was

mailed and how long it was exposed to and what temperatures. At least err on the

side of caution. If you get very much injection site reaction, you can take a

benadryl if you are allowed, about half an hour before your injection and it

will help. It also helps to use the upper outer quadrant of the buttocks if you

have someone who can help inject you rather than your leg or belly. They make an

auto injector as well if you need assistance in putting a shot into yourself,

(don’t know your situation).

Take care,

Best of Luck! The first one is the hardest! Trust me, by the first week

you'll be a pro! You'll be ready to teach others!!!

Kirk gave great info to help you with comfort.

As a nurse, I can give you some different help. I hope they gave you some

kind of injection tutorial, but basically you want to " dart " the needle (if

you've played darts that would be useful here!). Try not to tap tap tap

the skin with the tip of the needle, #1 it will cause tiny micro openings in

the skin, and #2, it will dull the needle and a dull needle hurts more.

Don't be embarrassed with us here. Most of us have had the same exact

feelings you are having right now! And I had given probably thousands of

injections TO OTHER PEOPLE in my career! But when it came to my own, I STILL

had

the same feelings you are having!

Which leads me to my next helpful hint. Clense the skin with the skin

prep, pinch the skin with your non-dominant hand (non-writing hand) and you

really do have to look at where you are aiming (if I could tell you to look

away I surely would! but then you'd be hitting your other hand!) and then

JUST GO FOR IT! trust me when I say the more you hesitate, the more you will

hesitate!

Once the needle is in, that's the worst of it! I found injecting the

Kineret veeeeeery slowwwly made it burn less for me, but others here in the

group might have a different experience. Some folks prefer the " quicker the

better " method!

Kirk gave good ideas on sites that hurt less. Just remember to rotate

your sites so that you are not going in the same place. Taking a daily shot

you will need to be mindful of that so the tissue below the skin has time to

repair so to speak.

And the " darting " motion comes from the wrist. if you want to practice

with a pen or pencil you are keeping the " syringe " firmly in your finger

grasp, and all the motion comes from the wrist.

Best of luck my friend!

Try to think of this as your new best friend! It might be your ticket to

a healthier you!!!

hugs,

Jo

Every shipment of Kineret I have ever received has been well packed

inside of a styofoam cooler and numerous cold packs. I do know if it gets

too warm it is no longer any good. The only time I ever left mine out too

long (a day, I forgot to inject one night) it turned milky in appearance,

and I threw that vial away.

It is ok to allow it to warm up a little prior to injection, but it must

be stored cool/cold, but not be allowed to freeze.

Hi Ewelina,

I used to do the injection in the mornings. As others have said, I would leave

the injection out of the fridge for a little while before taking it. I also

used the front upper thighs, and found that by using both thighs I could always

find a spot that was " fresh " to use.

I hope all goes well for you. When I started my rheumy scheduled an appointment

for the nurse to demonstrate how to do the injections. Did you get any help

learning? In fact it was pretty simple, but I felt much better after someone

had showed me in person.

Good luck and I hope you find good relief from Kineret…

Best,
