Guest guest
Yet another Autism (doesn't) Speaks piece. I don't like the organization though occasionally they do a little decent work. I'm in the Boston suburbs, and found far more/better resources for Aspies here than in the Washington DC area. The local Asperger's Association (AANE) is easy to find, and offers help for kids and adults. [it's also run by Aspies, which Autism Speaks is not.] Through them, I could find Aspie couples counseling. The school district in my town is excellent for kids. I've been thinking about that as I do the graphic design on my son's elementary school yearbook. There is a set of twins in his grade, one rather seriously Aspie, one mildly autistic. They both are in regular classrooms (with aides), and included to the best of their ability in regular activities. *All* kids get social skills training. And I have *never* seen the twins get picked on or bullied, and I volunteer in school a lot. The other kids accept them as they are. --Liz > What are top places to live for people with autism? > By Jaslow CBS NEWS HEALTHWATCH > April 2, 2012 > http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-204_162-57405482/what-are-top-places-to-live-for-peo\ ple-with-autism/ > > > > ------------------------------------ > > " We each have our own way of living in the world, together we are like a symphony. > Some are the melody, some are the rhythm, some are the harmony > It all blends together, we are like a symphony, and each part is crucial. > We all contribute to the song of life. Guest guest
Hi Liz, I'm glad that you have excellent support in the Boston area. That is one of the areas that gets high marks in the article's report. We are aware that in today's climate, the autism community, like so many other communities, is divided, but we try to steer clear of divisions present information and points of view from all sides. We here at ASPIRES hope to serve as a bridge .. the group's motto is " Climbing the Mountain together " - Helen > > > What are top places to live for people with autism? > > By Jaslow CBS NEWS HEALTHWATCH > > April 2, 2012 > > http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-204_162-57405482/what-are-top-places-to-live-for-peo\ ple-with-autism/ > > > > > > > > ------------------------------------ > > > > " We each have our own way of living in the world, together we are like a symphony. > > Some are the melody, some are the rhythm, some are the harmony > > It all blends together, we are like a symphony, and each part is crucial. > > We all contribute to the song of life.
