Guest guest
This has to be so difficult for you. My prayers are with you and your family. It's so difficult. At this point I would try to find ANY THING that she likes and get her to it. As many times as I could. Any thing that makes her happy that might take her mind off of this horrible situation, if just for a while would be good. To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Thu, January 5, 2012 8:33:40 PMSubject: Pray for my daughter please! Hello Everyone,I need your help. I am requesting all of you to pray for my daughter, . I told my story about her last hospital stay and how they kept her on antidepressants without after care.(And how her therapist then dropped her as well) Well that is the last time she will be on antidepressants. She tried again to take her life. (Again just 3-4 weeks after starting another antidepressant) She was in the icu unit with a breathing tube. She could not breath on her own. Medically she has improved and will be ok, THANK GOD! Anyway she is in a new hospital and off the medicine. The past week has been hell and we have a long road ahead of us so please pray for her. Tonight she seemed to have a glimmer of hope. I explained that God has other plans for her and she is going to help find a cure for this terrible condition. She was so close to death but she is one strong girl. The good news is we have educated many new people; doctors, nurses, socials workers, etc. on Misophonia. We educated a lot of people and they were ALL very interested to hear about it. All who came in contact with my daughter also did their own research as well, before speaking to her. They all seemed very sad to hear about it too. It was the first time we didn't get the strange glare or confused looks when explaining Misophonia. We explained that we are willing to do anything to help research this terrible condition. I probably won't be able to respond because I have been spending every moment at the hospital so thank you again for always being there to listen. Guest guest
Oh my gosh – my heart is breaking for you and your daughter. As you know from my previous replies, I’ve been through similar experiences with hospitals and a suicide attempt with my son, so I’m really feeling for you. It sounds like you’re doing all you can to fight for the proper care for your daughter. Some of the doctors, particularly in the hospitals can be really pushy (they think they know it all and that the parents don’t know anything because they aren’t doctors) and even somewhat threatening at times (make sure everything is documented in writing), so you really have to be very firm and have lots of other people, including other doctors, to back you up and support your stand. Meanwhile, you certainly have my support, prayers and lots of hugs to you both! Guest guest
I was just typing your message to the group, sorry I couldn't do it sooner, my friend. I am so sorry this all has happened. Your daughter is so wonderful and sweet and strong, I know she'll be ok. I hope she can get on the Internet soon as she seems to love that. I've sent her an email and a FB message telling her I'm thinking of her. And she has loads of positive energy going her way.Thank goodness she's finally at a hospital where they are willing to listen, not judge, and work with you. Finally! You're such a good Mom. I know you must be exhausted. Try to get some good rest tonight. Love you lots!!HeidiSent from my iPhoneOn Jan 5, 2012, at 6:33 PM, "wouldlovetofindacurefor4s" wrote: Hello Everyone,I need your help. Guest guest
I hope you don't mind, but I copy/pasted your request to another group ( http://www.cityofshamballa.net/ ). They have a subgroup called " Healing Requests. " People (healers) join the group to offer prayers to those in need. I made a formal request on your behalf. Be well. > > This has to be so difficult for you. My prayers are with you and your family. > It's so difficult. At this point I would try to find ANY THING that she likes > and get her to it. As many times as I could. Any thing that makes her happy > that might take her mind off of this horrible situation, if just for a while > would be good. > > > > > > > > ________________________________ > > To: Soundsensitivity > Sent: Thu, January 5, 2012 8:33:40 PM > Subject: Pray for my daughter please! > >  > Hello Everyone, > > I need your help. I am requesting all of you to pray for my daughter, .  > I told my story about her last hospital stay and how they kept her on > antidepressants without after care.(And how her therapist then dropped her as > well) Well that is the last time she will be on antidepressants.  She tried > again to take her life. Guest guest
I'm so sorry about your daughter. Misophonia is difficult to deal with in the first place, add too many sounds that bother you, and being young and all that goes with that to it too and it can be intolerable. But you are right, she is here for a reason. And she could be the face and story for this condition if she can get to the point that she wants to share her story with the world. I know she has to try to find what works for her to limit the impact from the noises. After reading so many people's stories on here, I've learned that my condition (even though debilitating and interfering in my life, and helping to destroy my marriage) is not as bad as some on here who can't tolerate many normal sounds. So obviously degree is an issue too. It sounds like your daughter has an intollerable degree of too many sounds. After seeing a psychologist, I was told since misophonia has no cure there was nothing she could do to help me. Unfortunately, that seems to be the general consensus among the professionals. Until we push and push to be recognized and treatments for this condition to be studied, we will always just be told " oh well nothing we can do " . Ripa, t.v. personality, might be a good one to get on board because she's the one that brought this condition to light by saying she thought she had it. I'd say she would definitely get involved after hearing that the condition she shares made a young girl try to kill herself and there is no one that can help. And that more and more people are coming forward as having the condition. She definitely has connections.... The one thing we have on this board is power in numbers. The more people that fight for something, the more likely to be heard. To: " Soundsensitivity " <Soundsensitivity > Sent: Thursday, January 5, 2012 10:08 PM Subject: Re: Pray for my daughter please! Guest guest
That is so wonderful to hear that your daughter is out of the hospital and recovering. I hope she hasn't suffered any physical damage from the suicide attempt. I know it can happen when someone who is seriously depressed starts a new anti-depressant, and then receives a boost of energy at first before coming out of the depression. Unfortunately sometimes people are tempted to use that initial burst of energy to follow through on the suicide that they had been contemplating. As far as other alternatives to medication, someone who was a member here a while ago reported relief from her misophonia with the GAPs diet. It is a strict diet, I would imagine especially hard to stick to for a teenager. But might be another alternative to consider as along with the NFB.http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Soundsensitivity/message/11397I wish your daughter and all the best. She is blessed to have you taking such good care of her. To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Friday, January 13, 2012 12:54 PM Subject: Re: Pray for my daughter please! Thank you so much for your prayers!!!! Guest guest
Thank you. Yes her exact words were the meds gave her the courage that she otherwise wouldn't have. What you said makes great sense too. I wish the doctors spoke as wise as the people on here. They look at me like I'm crazy most times. She is also going to try DBT (therapy) and she went to an exercise class that she can go to on a drop in basis. The dr. at the hospital thought we should try Dbt along with neurofeedback. I know I am probably putting her in overload but while she is out of her bedroom and willing to go; I have to have her try as many things as she can that might help before she gets scared again. Once she gets scared she will only want to isolate herself in her bedroom and not do anything. I told her we can't go back to living like we were before because it wasn't working. We were just isolating ourselves from each other to protect her from her triggers. Her quality of life needs to improve, it's so sad when she just wants to isolate herself. It's so difficult for her and we live moment to moment; what will work one moment not always works the next. Our life is a roller coaster ride and she is exhausted. We have seen so many doctors with no success. In fact, she is worse. Just over a year ago, she was an active girl in school and in sports, etc. even with her condition. I would love to bring that girl back. Just as I am writing this she came and slammed the door because it was opened. That terrifies her because she thinks there is a chance she could hear me cough or clear my throat. The good news is she has been very active since she came home from the hospital. She is not just sitting home. Thankfully the doctors have assured me there is no physical damage done. I pray there isn't any down the road. I will look into the diet too. My heart breaks for all of you who suffer with this. Has anyone tried DBT?? > > >> > > This has to be so difficult for you. My prayers are with you> and your family.Â> > > It's so difficult. At this point I would try to find ANY THING> that she likes> > > and get her to it. As many times as I could. Any thing> that makes her happy> > > that might take her mind off of this horrible situation, if just for> a while> > > would be good.Â> > >> > >> > > > > >> > >> > >> > >> > > ________________________________> > > From: wouldlovetofindacurefor4s wouldlovetofindacurefor4s@> > > To: Soundsensitivity > > > Sent: Thu, January 5, 2012 8:33:40 PM> > > Subject: Pray for my daughter please!> > >> > > Â> > > Hello Everyone,> > >> > > I need your help. I am requesting all of you to pray for my> daughter, . Â> > > I told my story about her last hospital stay and how they kept her> on> > > antidepressants without after care.(And how her therapist then> dropped her as> > > well) Well that is the last time she will be on antidepressants.Â>  She tried> > > again to take her life. Guest guest
Good to hear that no damage has been done, that must be a relief.I have done cognitive behavioral therapy which is method of psychotherapy incorporated into DBT, and I highly recommend CBT for helping to manage the misophonia and the anticipatory anxiety she feels when worrying about when the next trigger is going to happen. DBT also incorporates mindfulness therapy which helps with acceptance and distress tolerance and living in the moment, which is also something that I do that is helpful. DBT includes a number of other methods for coping with difficult emotions which I am not familiar with. DBT is recommended for people who self-injure. I hope she finds this method of therapy helpful and that the therapist that she is going to work is a good fit for her. For some people CBT can be as helpful for overcoming depression and anxiety as the medications are. Have you tried those listerine strips which melt in your mouth? I find them helpful for stopping a couch. To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Friday, January 13, 2012 8:52 PM Subject: Re: Pray for my daughter please! Thank you. Guest guest
Maikaefer, Ugh I wrote you a long note and went to answer the door and it got deleted. Trying to remember all that I wrote... Anyway, Good to hear about the therapy. Unfortunately this new therapist is not a good fit at all but because things are so bad we have to keep trying. It seems we have found the worst of the worst when it comes to therapists. As for my cough unfortunately it's not the cough anymore but the fear that I may cough that is causing her more stress. (even though I do cough alot and will try those strips) Her anxiety about being in the same room with me is so bad. But the good news is last night we were able to have a board game family night. My older daughter is going back to college tomorrow and it was her idea about playing a game together. It was amazing and we haven't had a peaceful night like that in a long time. I was so proud of my daughter and it was a huge step for her to be able to be with me for that long. (since my voice is also a trigger) It wasn't flawless but in my eyes it was perfect. > > > > That is so wonderful to hear that your daughter is out of the hospital and recovering. Guest guest
I'm very happy to hear about your peaceful night together as a family. I hope your daughter feels proud about it, it's very important that she gives herself credit for every positive step she takes, no matter how small. That evening sounded like a big step. I can tell you from learning how to overcome anxiety is to give yourself a lot of positive reinforcement for every little baby step in the right direction, because we tend to remember our negative experiences more strongly.Too bad about the therapist not being a good fit. Maybe it would help for you to get a book on DBT to familiarize yourself with the process, might be a way to support her. Also, part of the DBT therapy might likely involve "exposure and response prevention" to her trigger sounds, encouraging her to listen to her trigger sounds and learning to react in a more positive or at least neutral way to respond to them, this is usually done in careful slow steps. I would be careful not to force this on her too strongly. It might be extreemly difficult for her because it seems misophonia may be hard-wired not learned, so one must be careful that one is not just continuing to reinforce the strong negative reaction. Wishing you better days ahead! To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Sunday, January 15, 2012 5:31 PM Subject: Re: Pray for my daughter please! Guest guest
Yep, you know my daughter to a T. I told her I was proud of her but she started to beat herself up when she ran out of the room once with anger. Both my husband and I calmed her down and told her how proud we were of her. She said, " but I ruined the night. " I said, " no you didn't you are fine, we are fine just go back into the living room and lets continue. " She did and I was so proud. It's was one minute out of the night. The hard part is getting her, herself to feel great or proud of the positive steps she takes. She beats herself up so much. Never feeling she is good enough or pretty enough, etc. Hopefully the DBT will help her feel better about herself. Thanks so much for all your advice. I feel like you know my daughter very well without even meeting her. Sorry you have to experience the same thing. I am heading back to work tomorrow after being off for 5 weeks with both her hospitalizations. I am so nervous to go back but I have too. I hope I can keep up with this forum after I return. I work in a classroom and can not have any access to this forum. Thanks for all your help and advice! > > > > > > That is so wonderful to hear that your daughter is out of the > hospital and recovering. Guest guest
I know depression and anxiety all to well. and misophonia and the secondary psychological problems that it causes. The DBT can surely help your daughter with not being so hard on herself, it is possible retrain one's mind to stop the automatic negative thoughts about oneself and/or how to talk back to them. And that should at least take a little of her stress away. She probably feels terrible about how the misophonia controls her reactions. The fact that you accept this problem as a real problem, sounds like the whole family is on board with this, I am sure that makes a huge difference for her. I wish your daughter all the best with the new treatment strategies. To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Monday, January 16, 2012 4:37 PM Subject: Re: Pray for my daughter please!
