Guest guest
Hi everyone. My name is Michele. I am 38 years old and am new to the list. I am however, not new to the frustration and dispair of vulvodynia. I have had this terrible burning and irritation since June 98. My story is a long one, so I won't bore you with the details. Briefly, I got a yeast infection after antibiotic use, used topical cream. It went away, but then about 3 wks later I started to experience burning that wouldn't go away. Finially, after doing alot of my own research, learned this burning had a name, vulvodynia. I had a yeast consultation with a Dr. (PHD) from UCLA who urged me to have my GYN prescribe long term antifungal for me. After 5 weeks of Diflucan 2x/wk I had no symptoms. I felt 100% normal again and stayed that way for 2 months. Unfortunatly, these past 2-3 weeks I feel symptoms returning, although not nearly as bad as they were last summer - not even close (that was unbearable). Anyway, I'm hear and happy to meet you all. I am sorry for all of us who have this frustrating condition but I feel some comfort knowing that there are others. (I thought I was the only one) I look forward to reading your emails and learning from you all. Take care. Michele
Guest guest
Hi Michele, I go to UCLA because I found out about their Pelvic Pain Center on the internet. I'm just wondering if you've been there. The doctor in charge is a woman, Dr. Rapkin, and I am 75 percent better since seeing her. If you haven't seen her, ask for a referral. Good luck, Joanne
Guest guest
Su Lin, Welcome to the list! I wanted to address some of your issues. Any foul odor should be checked by a physician. It could be bacterial vaginosis or trichomonus sp?. These both cause a bad smell and can be easily treated with the antibiotic flagyll. You should not douche! Especially twice a week! It upsets the vaginas natural flora and can lead to infections. Gynecologists no longer recommend douching unless done for a specific reason that they prescribe. Example: I had biopsys done on my cervix so I had to use a betadine douche before to help clean the area. You really need to make an appt. to have this smell checked out. Where do you live? Well, I look forward to reading your posts. Beckie

Guest guest
Welcome Su Lin........you are at the right place. I too suffer from this problem and itching is my main source of pain. I have a non-odorous discharge too which I think perpetuates the itching. I have trouble having intercourse and sitting still for long periods of time. I have tried the Vaginex route and get all to fed up the intense burning that happens after I apply it. Fortunately, that only lasts for about a minute but it is enough for me to grin and bear the itching on a *mild* day. I hope you find comfort here on this list. It really is a source of support and strength for me! I look forward to getting to know you better........ , dx in 97, itching, burning, POC, IC...mother has similar problems (family Hx?)
