I'm not sure how to interpret this list. Phil had the option of being listed

at

Univ of Alabama or UCLA. We chose UCLA because we couldn't and had no desire to

relocate to Alabama. They said Alabama gets more livers. I need to work and my

job

is here so we didn't have much choice. UCLA had the second highest amount of

people

waiting but more people alive within the year after and a fewer percentage died

while waiting but a lower percentage that received a liver within one year.

Does

that mean that the people at UCLA are better taken care of in the meantime, that

they are not as critical when listed? The numbers on the list are frightening

but

the death rate is fairly low. I know that Jacquelyn and her family rented out

their

house in Oklahoma and move into a rental in Dallas so that she could be near

Baylor. In her case her husband was able to maintain his job with the same

company.

I also have read that UCLA does split liver transplants and live donor

transplants.

If you divide out their figures they do about 196 tx within a year and I'm sure

a

greater percentage with a couple of years since the percentage of deaths is low.

If

nothing else, we can have confidence that they get a lot of practice.

I will be taking this list to Phil's liver doctor on Friday. The appointment for

the

social worker has been postpone until next Wednesday. This just seems to drag on

and

on. I'm afraid that since its been over 6 months since Phil had a cholangitis

attack that they won't list him now. Maybe the numbers reflect that the doctors

list the patients earlier since they have such a long wait. (which by the way

they

didn't give what the average waiting time is).
