Guest guest
I did, and I wound up in the ICU for 4 days. It wasn't related to the surgery, it was from the anesthesia. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this was quite painful, for me at least. It was a good 3-4 weeks before my throat started to feel normal again. My reaction is something I have no recollection of what so ever. I apparently became incredibly violent and had to be restrained (this was after the surgery) and I cursed everyone & anyone who came near me. They told me I was throwing everything within reach also. I don't remember a damn bit of it. For the most part, those particular nurses took it personally and left me to be. Luckily for me one nurse thought something might be wrong, and she was right as my blood oxygen levels dropped like a rock. If she wouldn't have done her job I'd be dead now. I'm still quite pissed off at the other nurses. I'm told reactions like that aren't that uncommon, but they all took it personally as if I knew what I was doing. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it goes easier on your end! Recovery was long and hurt but other than that wasn't the worst thing I have ever had to endure. Best of luck, Kirk. > ** > > > Have a question...Who out there have had their tonsils removed as an adult > with Stills? Recovery issues? Guest guest
Thanks, Kirk....Turns out even though she requires cardiac anesthesia....the surgery was cancelled until more cardiac workup can be done. She has had two TKRs at virtually the same hospital (this time at children's) and they know her well. I find it bizarre that they are at all concerned since she is so often treated there. Sorry about your situation with anesthesia...Have not heard of that reaction. However, the pain is something we are expecting.... B. Guest guest
I have an Anesthesiologist as a customer of mine and he tells me that it isn't that uncommon for someone to have an adverse reaction similar to what I went through. His theory is that it is partly medication, partly a subconscious reaction. His theory was I was in pain but not aware of it as one would be when they are awake and the reaction should not have been handled as it was...with certain Nurses taking it personally. Fortunately I had one nurse who thought something might be going wrong and she kept on monitoring me when she found my blood oxygen levels way below safe. I figure i it is rare and/or weird I will find it!!!! I figure this is what one gets for lifting weights & never doing drugs...LOL. I'd still KILL fir my military medical records as I got sick 2 days after they gave everyone a ton of vaccinations/immunizations and wound up in the hospital for 2 weeks. the symptoms were all there, especially the high fevers/chills/unreal headaches etc..... I've gone through the VA, numerous Congressmen and every other direction I've ever heard of but nothing has ever come of it. I even contacted every hospital within 50 miles of Ft. Benning, Ga and to my amazement none of them have a record of me, either. Yet after all of this I have my RD, who works at a VA on an as needed basis found my name in their system, but he doesn't have the security clearance to open it! Thanks Uncle Sam!!!! Just for reference this was in 1990, not too long before the 1st Gulf War. Sorry for the rant...I'm hurting like hell at the moment. Guest guest
Kirk, Depending on the military hospital, it's not all that difficult to get SOME of your medical records...or at least it didn't use to be. Some one I know did it. When they went the procedure was they were given their file and they waited the usual forever to see whoever they were their to see. They walked out, made the copies of what they needed/wanted, went back in and went on like nothing happened. However, I DOUBT what you are looking for would be in records you could just see on paper they would just hand to you. How FRUSTRATING that must be! Guest guest
Crazy. Hadleigh's surgery has been canceled. They are saying that she needs a full cardiac workup...Just had an echo...Seems a bit cautious. She has had general - cardiac - anesthesia with TKR, etc..... B. Guest guest
Always better to be over cautious than to overlook something that should have been caught. I am sure it is frustrating now, but better this frustration now than some bad consequence later. Hang in there. April Sent from my Verizon Wireless Phone Re: Tonsillectomy Crazy. Guest guest
Well, I guess it is his call, ultimately. My son had a surgery postponed once by the anesthesiologist. It turned out ok in the end. Sorry you have to deal with the frustration, though. Hugs. April Sent from my Verizon Wireless Phone Re: Tonsillectomy Crazy. Hadleigh's surgery has been canceled.
