OT -- Poem -- New Year's Day

New Year's Day

Even as we brace ourselves

for winter's trials,

the wildlife know

it's all downhill from here.

Unnoticed by most of us

the sun lingers a few more moments

every day from now 'til June.

In microscopic increments

the tree buds begin to swell,

nourishing the tiny beginnings

of new branches, leaves and flowers,

signaling their inherent faith

that out of darkness

comes more light,

that quiet patience

is rewarded,

that Mother Nature

never lets us down,

that rejuvenation

is not just possible,

it is the fundamental

imperative

of life.

May you each find more health, peace and joy in this New Year,
