Guest guest
Thanks for the advice. I have made it down to 2.5mg of prednisone and I am hoping to stay this low but the weight gain still is there. I can't seem to get rid of the stomach weight and bloating :-/ Anyone have any other ideas? Guest guest
, I am also tapering (off of Medrol) and am frustrated by the weight gain. I feel like a tub of lard. Haha. I am currently trying juicing fresh fruit and vegetables at least once a day as a meal replacement. It's my understanding that your body metabolizes liquid easier than food. I have no idea if it's going to work. Really, I'm looking to gain nutrients and energy, and I do know it's doing that. I am going to ask my doctor about doing " Clean " by Junger (book and website) wherein you have two liquid meals a day, and one solid meal for at least two weeks. It is supposed to be great with autoimmune diseases and to get rid of the toxins. I did it before I had Still's and I felt so good afterwards (not to mention, I lost about 5 lbs a week, and it stayed off until now...) You can also make smoothies with Almond Milk (lower in calories than milk) and frozen fruit. I do about 1 cup of almond milk, frozen (unsweetened) strawberries, and about a tbl. of agave (or honey). Tastes like a Strawberry Milkshake. Another favorite of mine is this smoothie. I leave out the yogurt because I don't think it's needed. Very filling, lots of nutrients and a good meal replacement. http://iowagirleats.com/2012/01/04/my-top-secret-diet-weapon/ Also, I've been trying to do some Pilates. I really like the Mari Winsor dvds and I try to do them on my bed. That does AMAZING things for the mid section. I've also found some exercises that are not crunches. http://www.shape.com/fitness/workouts/10-crunch-free-moves-killer-abs?page=6 Sometimes I wonder if all of these side effects are worth it for us. It is so frustrating. Sara > > Thanks for the advice. I have made it down to 2.5mg of prednisone and I am hoping to stay this low but the weight gain still is there. Guest guest
I have been on steroid for over 10 years and this 2.5 has been the lowest dose so far. The weight I'm hoping will go down but I exercise almost every day and still no weight lose yet. Frustrating!!! Sent from my iPhone > Hi all, > > I would like to share that after my few years on steroids the weight did come off but I know it’s so hard to be over weight and sick at the same time. Often if we ask our doctors they may give us isometric exercises pamphlets to keep the muscles toned at least. Another thing that helped me was buying a Tai Chi CD on Amazon for Arthritis. It was a long time that I did just the warm up of 15 minutes but it moves your body easily without stress, helps with balance and strength. Doctors have found the benefits to be much more than just for the joints. > > Just some suggestions, good day all > >

Guest guest
I'd also like to add I am not overweight. The prednisone has just added stomach weight. I shouldn't have to change my diet because I don't eat crappy foods. I'm hoping with the gym 4 times a week and being at 2.5mg now that it will help. Any ideas? Guest guest
, the best way to lose weight aside from proper diet is a lot of cardio workouts....When I used to wrestle I was able to shave 20lbs off in 2 weeks on more than one occasion depending on where my coach needed me. I'd run 2x per day and eat light....averaging 3.5 miles per run. I could most likely never do that again, but it used to be amazingly effective for me. Guest guest
Hi ,  We can all figure it out together. I think starting slowly is the best bet. Besides we have not choice if our bodies are just not wanting to cooperate!  It's nice to hear from you on the group. I'm on my way down on hydrocortisone, and it's the same way. The doc said I could expect to feel bad and tired when the dose dropped and I had to rest and go with it. Giving up more physical exurtion is best while the body adjusts to the new dose or it's just going to hold on to the weight thinking it's in a crisis, which it kind of is.  So let's keep in touch, with the other ladies on the group who are interested in loosing steroid weight, (around the mid section), and help each other as much as we can. I believe we can learn to stretch this and make slow concentrated movements that will help. I need to put my money where my mouth is and do it!  I need to wait until I feel better after being in the hospital and so sick sitll. Then I need to put my nose to the grindstone and push a little at a time. Don't overdo, or your body will retaliate and you'll be much worse off....Good Luck  All My Best, in San Diego >To: " Stillsdisease " <Stillsdisease > >Sent: Wednesday, August 22, 2012 7:49 PM >Subject: Re: Re: Prednisone weight gain > > > >I have been on steroid for over 10 years and this 2.5 has been the lowest dose so far.
