Military doctors are not known for being the best around. I can't tell you how many times they ignored things that almost ended up killing my friend. I would suggest, if at all possible, going off-base to find a doctor. However, most psychologists and psychiatrists have never heard of this condition and are unable to provide any insight, and most audiologists don't know how to help. The big problem is that there is no cure for this, and it is just now a newly recognized condition. I have had to educate my doctors on it, as they have never heard of it. All we can do is things for ourselves that help us hide from the things that set us off as much as possible. In the military, thats harder than normal. You can't wear headphones, since you will be expected to hear everything going on and react in a second. I don't know that this condition will

not ultimately affect your career, especially since it might be you that eventually wants out just to get away from it, but I would definitely go after an honorable discharge if it comes to that. To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Friday, February 3, 2012 1:06 AM Subject: Re: Suggestions???

I have tried to show them articles, the Today show clip, and they tell me i just need to get over it. Does anyone have a suggestion so i can get the appropriate help and not have this condition negatively effect my career? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

hey man; when i got out of high school, the first place i went was the US Navy, since it sounded like a good deal, and i wanted to make a career out of it. However, the 4sw/misophonia was bad. I did make it through boot camp, but only to end up shortly afterward with self-inflicted scratch marks on my face when i was in a bad mood and someone made the wrong noises at the wrong time. I was taken to the on base phyche ward and evaluated. Ulitmately i was let go from the military with a medical/general discharge, though i even wrote a letter of rebutal to the commanding officers. No luck. All i can say is, file your nails really short and keep them away from your face. Also, the doctors may be telling you to " get over it " because if you keep insisting that you have a phycological issue, you may end up discharged. I hate to say it, but just try to bear it.
