Debbie,

I definitely experience the sharp stabbing pain. It's not often, but

as you say, it takes my breath away.

I would be interested to know what you experience as a cholangitis

attack and how it differs.

The stabbing pain lasts only a few seconds but is enough to take my

breath away. Has anyone else had any experience with this type of

pain? I have been on antibiotics for the last 30 days for a

" low-grade " cholangitis episode that just won't quit.

Hello Debbie,

I have experienced very sharp stabbing pains up my right side also.

The stabbing can be quite extreme.

What normally happens for me and I am only talking about me is that I have about 2 minutes Max to get to a clean toilet or else.

Have you got bowel problems.I have IBD.

I can not say exactly what organ the pain comes from, but I can be sure about the extreme stabbing, coming from an area from my waist upto and under my ribs on my right side.

I do not know if this is any help to you .

Up to now i do not know if i had a cholangitis attack.

On 2 x 250 mg of ciproxin to cut down chances of infection.

Regards

.

Hi Debbie,

I experienced similar pains and more prolonged ones that only responded

to taking codeine and lying quietly in bed for a few hours or so. My

Hepatologist figured these were due to slug acutely blocking one of my

bile ducts and then freeing up as the bile slug moved through the

blocked area.

I went to the ER a couple of times when the pains persisted and liver

enzyme tests were done. Both times the pains went away while I was in

the ER so no further tests were done. Perhaps an MRI might have shown

the blockage or an ERCP. Luckily they weren't necessary.

Debbie,

I to have had the same pain. Although I have only had it a couple of times

but it does get your attention right away. Because of the UC, I have also had

lower left pains in the area of the colon. I go for a Dr. appt. next Friday,

it maybe be colonoscopy time again.

My son Quantell had severe, episodic URQ pain for 2 years before the PSC

diagnosis. He went through tons of diagnostics, and removal of his

gallbladder, all to no avail. And even when the PSC diagnosis came, the

doctors said ... you guessed it, the pain was not related.

I independently found a pain clinic and told them I no longer cared what was

causing the pain, I just wanted it stopped. They called the hepatologist in

to consult, telling him his role was only to help them find a drug regimen

that would not cause additional damage.

Thanks to BID drugs, Q has been mostly pain free for nearly 3 years now.

When he does have episodes of breakthrough pain, I have a PRN regimen to

supplement. There are no obnoxious side effects (except for the logistics of

dealing with triplicate prescriptions <g>). Pain control has made a HUGE

difference in his life, in my life, in our relationship. (You parents know

what it's like to say 'I know you hurt but I can't help.')

I strongly urge anyone in pain to seek out a pain clinic. This is a

recognized specialty -- you can search for it from several doctor/hospital

locator Web sites. Anyone needing help, e-mail me privately with your

geographic details.

All the best,

Pam (mom to Quantell, 9, dx 1996)

Hi Debbie,

I have experienced that same pain. It's terrible. I take percocet for the

liver pain but I think I am starting to build up a resistance to it. I am

going to ask my doctor if there is anything else I could try.

Pam,

Please let me know what pain regimen Quantell is on. I can't deal with

the amount of pain I am in at times. I truly would appreciate your input.

Thank you,

I have been in non-stop pain for the last few weeks. I take both oxycontin and

celebrex. I am getting desperate. I've been taking Bayer Back and Body,

Excedrin Back and Body (got a bottle before they took it off the market), I've

tried pain relieving creams, roll-ons, patches. I haven't seen the

rheumatologist since 2008. I've just been getting my meds through the family

doctor. I go see the rheumatologist May 11. I was also thinking about going to

a chiropractor or trying acupuncture. Any suggestions??

a, I hate to tell you this, but for me, the pain never stops. I can count

on 1 hand the number of times I've been pain-free in the past 6 years...and it

was euphoric. for some of us, that is Still's. Hopefully the RD will bring you

relief. take care - shannon

Greetings a,

Your rheumy appt is close so I would suggest holding of on a chiro and seeing

what the rheumy says about the idea. I am a firm believer in chiropractors but

also understand that once we hit a certain point in joint damage (and our backs

are one huge set of joints) chiro adjustments can contribute to as many problems

they help.

Have you tried Absorbine Jr liniment? It is the only one I have found that does

much good. I started using it years ago when I was working with horses and broke

my back. Funny thing is, I don't use the 'Jr' (which is sold for humans along

with things like Ben-Gay). I get mine at farm and fleet in the livestock

department. LOL

Dear a,

I have never gone to a chiropractor because my joints were very inflamed for

years and later severely damaged. I was afraid to.

Sometimes heat or ice help ease my pain along with my medications.

I hope you have some relief soon,
