They thought the immune system should be helping to keep >the yeast at bay. Chronic yeast infections is a sign of possible HIV in >women, however, I feel there are many more immune depressing conditions >that can cause this other than HIV! Whew! This makes me feel better. I've been sitting around, thinking about whether or not I've ever had any high risk factors for years and years, and really I can't come up with anything. Anyway, the things that appeared to prompt yeast infections for me recently (the last two years) have been: Lubricated condoms, high stress, a relatively high sugar diet (but, yes, still low oxalate), taking PREDNISONE for 10 days, and I do think that trying to use Aveeno in a concentrated form right near the vaginal area was a mistake. I think the starch in it breaks down to a more simple carbohydrate and fuels any existent yeast problem, which I may've had for years already! Also, lab tests revealed low thyroid (and antibodies to the thyroid), and low female hormones. I don't know if the hormonal levels had/have much to do with the yeast if they're low, however. I also think that years now of not exercising the way I used to, being MUCH more inactive, stressed out much of the time, and probably not getting proper nutrients in my diet since I can't seem to tolerate certain supplements have all added to the yeast dilemma. My dr. has said that too much sugar *can* depress the immune system, just as high stress can--especially when it's prolonged. Okay, that's my two cents for now on the yeast story! Maybe I'll go ahead and get tested for HIV someday. Is it very expensive, and just how confidential are they REALLY? Thanks. Gail R.
Guest guest
I know this is kind of off topic, but the HIV subject has come up in the last day or two. I just wanted to urge any of you ladies who may have even the slightest doubt whether they may be HIV postive or not to get tested. It is safe, and confidential. Just think of how it will feel to you when the test comes back negative. If by some chance it doesn't, treatment can be started, the " cocktail " of drugs out there used in treatment of HIV is having wonderful results to decrease the viral load in many HIV positive people. Look at Majic for instance. Again, if there is any doubt at all, you owe it to yourself to find out. ---------- > > To: VulvarDisordersonelist > Subject: Re: I finally have my report > Date: Thursday, March 18, 1999 1:46 AM > > > > Donna: > > >Oh yes, I've been tested for HIV *many* times! Guest guest
My insurance covered the costs of the HIV tests, so I don't have any idea how expensive they were. I'm really not sure about the confidentiality issue, but I figured my new to know and treat this condition if I had it outruled any confidentiality concerns I might have.
