Guest guest
Kirk, Thanks for sharing your story. I too used to work out in the gym most of my life. Even during pregnancy I went up to 7 months into it, but had to modify aerobics and a few other things. After I married my second husband, we spent a lot of time in the gym. He had goals and achieved some of them, but his body just wasn't a responder and he was a runner so he never got his body " built " like you did. He is gone now and it's just me. I'm determined and inspired to work on what this cortisone has done to me along with my own falling into craving foods to kill my depression. I'm on my way down, but not being able to add much in the form of exercise is a hinderence. I love how you plan to add more movement by disguising it in coaching. It will take your mind off of how you plan to be up on your feet, out there active with the kids, and what I consider the highest and greatest reward is what you are giving back to the community. My Dad coached little league, and he was the type of coach that you described yourself as in the way that he almost got booted off the field a few times. But people respected him for so many other things that he did do so well, that they overlooked his over zealeous way of sometimes getting a bit too passionate about the game. I believe with the perserverance you pocess that helped you to become what you did when you were body building, will still be what helps you take off the weight you are faced with now. You certainly are eating correctly and on track there, which is a milestone. I finally am myself, but yesterday was my birthday, and my family is taking me out to eat, and I plan on not holding anything back just for today. Okay... does anyone else one the group want to get on the weight loss, healthy eating train with Kirk and I? It is great to have a group to answer to, and someone to share accomplishments with. We can do it!! Maybe after summer and next winter comes, you can find yourself a winter sport or indoor activity to become involved in. You have time and you will be feeling so much better about yourself that you'll be able to look outside the box and find something that will carry you through the winters. Maybe even be back in the gym if that's what you wanted to do. Well take care and keep fighting!  Will be checking in from time to time and keep posting. >To: Stillsdisease >Sent: Friday, August 17, 2012 10:27 PM >Subject: Re: Re: Oral Sugery/Kineret/Mouth Pain > > > >Well, this is one of the most active times of the year for me as I coach >youth football and have been for close to or over a dozen years..I can't >really recall. Guest guest
Well, my major problem with winter time is that my body does not fair well with changing weather patterns. From May through late September (October if I really get lucky!) with the warm to hot and humid weather I have very minimal joint pain, with the exception of my back..which is beyond description. I not only have numerous bad discs (2 in my neck from a snow tubing accident, 3 in my mid spine and 4 in my lower back, not too mention arthritis throughout!) which is why I had a morphine pump implant that had to come out last month due to a staff infection. Fortunately my inflammation levels have been dropping and my back is half decent at this point in time, but I'm paranoid about what the future may hold. I've decided I'm going to attempt to go without the morphine pump, but only time (and my body) will tell! I guess I'm really weird in that the hotter and more humid it becomes, the better I feel! Out of my 40 or 41 resort stays, only 4 have occurred from May through September. My other major yet totally unresolved problem are the indescribable headaches that I get that make eating a bullet seem appealing! I know if I didn't have kids I would have done something stupid, but luckily I quit feeling sorry for myself and decided to be a Father. The pain is so intense that I've blown apart many of my teeth and the only med that will touch them is high doses of Dilaudid! My eyes will swell almost totally shut, my face will be flushed as if I was painted red and I'll get sever diplopia. Now they do occasionally get bad in the summer, but nowhere near as bad as they are in the winter. I almost always have at least a slight headache, but once they light off I am FUBAR! If it were up to me I'd move down south at least as far as Tn or Ga, potentially even Al or Tx....but so long as my in-laws are alive my wife will never agree to it. I have a cousin in San , my best friend lives roughly 25 miles East of Nashville (great city!) and I thoroughly enjoyed the attitude and friendliness of the people I met in Georgia back in my military days!' Now last winter was rather warm here which was both good and bad. It was good as my symptoms were roughly 89% of what they normally are and I only wound up in the resort once for 4 days. The bad was that it only snowed enough to plow once, which killed my wallet! Figuring in the cost of maintenance on my truck, the insurance, etc I need at least 3 plow-able snows to break even. I like it even more when I get 10 or 12, as that money goes a long, long way! My kids love it to as I'll bring a small snow blower, shovels and salt and I pay them rather well. In so far as body building, my Dr's have said NO emphatically. They told me I could do light lifting and such, but I was never happy working with light weights. Heck, my warm up consisted of 20 minutes in a sauna, 20 minutes of stretching and than 225 lbs for 30 reps, 245 for 20, 265 for 8-10, so on and so forth. I got picked on a lot as a young kid but by the age of 12 discovered I had amazing natural strength...pressing 195 my 1st time ever lifting! By the time I was14 was well over 250 on the bench. Than one day at the bust stop 3 older kids reminded me of when they rolled me down the hill in a garbage can (filled with garbage and the lid locked on) and I snapped! I beat the hell out of all three of them in one or two minutes. I learned how to be passively aggressive and learned to control my fear as time went on. The town I grew up in had fist fights every day, with everyone trying to prove they were top dog. One after the other would start on me as my reputation grew and there was never a shortage of them starting on me. I'm convinced that I have an " IDIOT MAGNET " entombed in my body as they seem to be attracted to me. One night, shortly before and I married we were out at a nice restaurant when 2 guys started on me for reasons which I'll never figure out. They both paid dearly in the parking lot. Well, I went quite a bit off track here but it kind of gives a glimpse into my mentality back than. I've matured a bunch since than, but I doubt I could ever walk away from a fight as the memories I have as a young boy kick in that " feel " and " mind-set " . There is more to the story as a young kid, but it is a horrific memory and one I don't care to discuss openly. Just think of one of the worst things that can happen to a young boy, and you'll probably guess right. Kirk. Guest guest
Kirk, My heart goes out to you because I can imagine what you must have gone through as a little boy. You've struggled so much but your stamina, and perserverence is evident in the story you've told of your life. Â I especially like how you are going to stand up and be a Father through all the trials and tribulations. It's commendable. Good for you!!
Â Thanks again for opening up to the group, it's good to have you here. Guest guest
I look at it as a major change of direction in my life as it made me into the man I've become. Prior to the age of 12 I was just happy to be a kid, but was picked on among other things. It taught me how to be mean when it is necessary, and it drove me to reach some unrealistic goals. Every single time in my life as a teen forward I grew a " huge set of balls " and vowed to never, ever be placed in a losing situation again. It didn't much matter to me how I did it, so long as I wasn't on the losing end. Even when I wrestled, I was far from the most talented person, but I had a ton of " heart and soul " and no one outworked me. I may not have been as talented as many others but I was able to post a winning record each and every year and win a few tournaments along the way. My coach thought I was the meanest wrestler he ever had and though I was as mean as hell, I didn't cheat. I know I went too far in some of my fights, and it took me a while to learn how to control my rage. Don't get me wrong, I always was a happy-go-lucky person, but once pushed past a certain point there was nothing or no one who would've been able to stop me from doing what I had to do. That attitude served me very well as I matured, as I reached the point of being able to scare the hell out of potential adversaries just by calmly talking and describing in detail what I was going to do to them if they wanted to rock! Many came at me anyway, and a few were severely beaten. I'll never forget one day when I was a Sophomore in HS... It was time for lunch and I was placing my books into my locker when a friend of mine punched me in the face. At 1st I thought it to be some sort of a bad joke, but than he punched me again. I calmly turned towards him and told him if he hit me again I would kill him. Those words would prove to almost come true, as he punched me a 3rd time and I belted him with 1 left jab and three right uppercuts. He wound up with a broken jaw, bruised sternum, 5 broken ribs and close to 100 stitches with one of his teeth getting deep into my knuckles.. The fight didn't last more than a minute, and when I saw what I had done I became very afraid that I went too far. His Father was the Chief of Police and attempted to charge me, but I was lucky in that a teacher had witnessed the entire fight from start to finish, and he told the truth. A few weeks later (after a nice 10 day vacation!) I asked him why he had started a fight with me as we had been pretty good friends for a number of years and his answer absolutely floored me......he simply stated that someone told him I was going to kick his ass, which I never said. He fell for a common trick kids I grew up with would pull and try to pit anyone against anyone just to see a fight. Now my fighting days are far behind me, which is not to say that I'd ever let anyone push me around but I'm being realistic. I know I still have the mentality and strength to succeed, but I also have learned the limits Stills forces onto oneself. One thing I learned from all of this is how to effectively communicate as that in itself will usually get someone to back off. I have a neighbor who lives a few doors down from me who loves to pick on women when the men aren't around and I came within millimeters of wrecking him last year, but he proved to me he was a total pussy when confronted by a man...even though he is 6'4 " and I'm 5'7 " . I gave him a final warning that if he ever said another thing to my wife I would bust through his door and beat him on his couch! I haven't seen him outside since.....but now he is doing the same thing to a woman who lives 2 doors down from me and I told her the next time he gets in your face call me and I'll come running! I also got in a decent number of fights that weren't mine, but I made them mine as I could not stand to see someone get bullied. I went to school with a very intelligent kid who had no arms. One day while walking down the hall there were 5 guys mimicking his walk and calling him all kinds of names. I saw red and grabbed the ring leader by the throat and asked him to pick on me.....he changed his tune real quick but 2 of his friends thought they'd get me and jumped me. One thing I learned form wrestling is to NEVER take a wrestler to the ground. I wound up beating the hell out of all 5.....and though they got a few shots in they all hit me in the head which was like punching a rock as I never felt any of them! The lessons I've learned from all this have been passed to my kids. Neither has ever had to fight as I taught them how to intimidate potential adversaries. Some of my best friends in life were guys who were being picked on and I stepped in. Oh well, enough reminiscing of the past...and although I miss it very much I am quite satisfied with my family and the potential each of my 2 boys have. They both have opportunities I never could have imagined as a kid. My oldest is @ the Milton Hershey Academy and is excelling. My youngest will be applying later this year. They take care of everything if you qualify financially and when they graduate they will have a minimum of 88,500.00 for college which is something I can no longer provide. Have a god one, Kirk. PS...I only post this as I feel it made me into the man I am. I still can be brutally mean at times, but have not had to be in a good number of years with the exception of the " PUNK " who likes to pick on women who lives down the street from me. I do have many regrets about what I did to some people and on the other hand know that I gave them every chance in the world to back off.
