Good Morning. - I recently joined this group because I am often driven insane by

the sounds of mechanical devices. It started when my New York City apartment

building installed a large, somewhat DIY venting system a few stories below our

livingroom window. The fight to quiet or limit its operation has dragged on for

10 years, although as of late I am happy to say it is the best it has ever been.

However, the whole thing has left me sensitized to mechanical sounds. Furnaces,

fridges, even the fans in computers. I also find music from neighbors

infuriating, but I am the most concerned by my reaction to them all: I go from

0 to 60 in a matter of seconds. I can feel this sharp rise in anxiety that is

different than the reaction of others. Am I in the right group? The sounds I

hate seem to be sounds most everyone hates - just not as much.
