Is having high cholesterol part of Still's or is it medication induced? I have

always had okay (3.6?) and last blood test my doctor said it was 5.8 and of

concern. Thanks for your help.

options, & we found one that has not only worked for me, but several others

close to me. In fact, one friend called me yesterday to tell me in 30 days her

cholesterol dropped 99 points w/ only this one change. We take " Carlson Super

Omega 3 Gems Fish Oil Concentrate 1000mg " , 2x per day. My doc says take 3x/day,

2x worked for us! It MUST be this brand, trust me, I've tried several others &

done countless hours of research, this truly is the best! You always want your

EPA to be higher then the DHA, just FYI. You can buy this from The Vitamin Shop

or online. Also, where Salmon is concerned, as long as it's " Wild Pacific or

Wild Alaskan " it's great for you! BUT, PLEASE KNOW!!!!, that is salmon is not

wild, but farm raised, it has a higher level of Omega 6, which can actually HURT

AUTOIMMUNE or joint & muscle issues!!

Having high cholesterol has nothing to do with Stills as such. High cholesterol

is in part hereditary, in part diet and weight related. You can be thin and

excercise all the time and still have high cholesterol. Now, the heavier you

are, the greater your risk of having high cholesterol....and those of us with

Stills don't get around as well as we used to, and many of us have gained weight

since we've been diagnosed. We can't excercise as much as we should, if at all;

we have been put on steroids and packed on pounds; our bodies just don't MOVE. I

have not heard of any particular meds that cause your cholesterol to go up, but

that does not man they don't exist. I know garlic is suppose to be good for

lowering cholesterol as well as whole grains. As far as suppliments, fish oil is

the only thing I know of that has been PROVEN to help lower cholesterol.

Tangent:

Geeze...how many of us DON'T take meds to counteract the meds we take? Anyone?

LOL when I analyze my meds, I think...hmmm, I take this med because I will die

with out it (Kineret)...yes, that's how bad my Stills is. My RD says if we

hadn't found a way to supress my immune system as quickly as we did I would not

be here. So, Kineret supresses my immune system so I stay alive, yet it puts me

at risk for diseases that can kill me...ironic. I take MTX so I can function.

Without it and the Kineret, I could not use my hand (they were useless for

anything requiring fine motor skills) but it is damaging my kidneys. I have to

take folic acid to help counter act the side effects of the MTX. We ARE a funky

lot, us Stills patients, are we not! I told my hubby when I was first diagnosed,

leave it to ME to get something unusual..I AM unique!

Hi Group,

My Dad went on a vegan diet and had had high blood pressure all his life and

high cholesterol. He was on it 6 months as was able to go off all blood pressure

meds, and cholesterol lowering medication. It really worked. He was strict and

maintained the diet for at least 3 years. He went back to slowly adding other

things back into his diet but has maintained his low lab levels by continuing to

eat fairly well. He is 78 years young and active each day.

It must just be lack of exercise then. I am (lucky me) only about 8kgs over my

normal weight and my diet has not changed, I've always eaten a healthy diet. I

always had low cholesterol but now I don't exercise because I can't. A lap of

the supermarket or a stroll to the end of my street and I'm done these days. I

used to walk everywhere and could walk all day! Bugger. However I do appreciate

that I am still (pardon the pun) alive and on my way toward remission. And yes,

I am also the eternal optimist. Like April said, we are a unique bunch. Thank

you for being supportive.

done countless hours of research, this truly is the best!
