Just a few notes (again) about the drugs. Dr. Tony Bass my

hepatologist at UC San Francisco mentioned that qualitatively speaking

his Urso patients are doing slightly better than his Actigall patients.

This is not a study, only what he has noticed in a hundred patients.

I believe it is the same drug (urso dioxilic acid sp?) but under

different names. However, only Urso is FDA approved. Perhaps someone

has additional info on this.

Dr. Bass knows Dr. Chapman from their time together in the UK. Dr.

Chapman is doing the large dosage Urso/Actigall trials. Result of his

previous studies, as well as those done by others indicate YOU MUST BE

TAKE AT LEAST 20mg/DAY PER KILOGRAM OF YOUR BODY WEIGHT FOR

URSO/ACTIGALL TO BE EFFECTIVE. A kilogram is 2.2 lbs. So for me,

since I weigh 170 lbs: 170 divided by 2.2 multiplied by 20 mg= 1,545

mg a day. So I take a bit more at 2,000 mg/day spread out over 3

meals. In my case, in 9 months all my LFTs with the exception of

Bilyrubin are now within a normal range. Everyone's results will vary

depending on how the schelorising is occuring and where, and how your

chemistry handles the prescription. Again in my case, I had to slowly

increase the dosage up to my present amount to avoid gastro probs.

Dr. Chapman is studying doses of 30 mg/day per kilogram of body weight.

It is too early for any results at these higher dosage levels. I will

keep the group informed, as I see Dr. Bass in 6 months, and always ask

him about Chapman.
