Guest guest
Hi Everyone I have struggled, as all of you have, with gum, radios, thin-walled apartments, dogs barking, chewing, swallowing, etc etc. In searching for something, anything, to help me, I found a way that is helping me cope. Might not work for everyone but I wanted to share it. I had been reading about Buddhism and being mindful - mindful of the moment you're actually in, not reacting to it, just being mindful and using meditation to quiet your world and brain. Meditation is tough to learn, especially for those of us with very active noisy brains, but stay the course, it does help. I found a great book titled, I think, " 8 Minute Meditataions " about starting with just 8 minutes. After just a week or so, I felt much calmer. When I would get in a trigger situation (airplane, crying baby), I would " zen " out into the calm place, close my eyes and concentrate on deep breathing. Didn't stop the baby crying, but made me calmer and I no longer wanted to beat the mother to get her child to stop. Just closing my eyes and breathing deeply seemed to settle my brain and blood pressure and calmed the triggers. Part of the meditation exercise is to " accept " the sounds that come into your space and recognize them for what they are - " someone's mowing a lawn " and let that sound go once you acknowledge it. Since all of us are trying everything to cope, I wanted to share and I will be eager to hear from anyone who does try it, or currently uses meditation to deal.
