Guest guest
My liver bloodwork always tests a little high too...my dr.s are keeping a close eye on it. Their explanation is that all the meds we take task the liver. That's why we're not supposed to drink, it adds to the liver's work. As far as Still's causing problems, I wouldn't be surprised since it does attack the organs also. ---- green_home_oreo wrote: > >

Guest guest
I have had high liver functions since the day I first became ill and see a live specialist. I have also had a liver biopsy (didn't hurt until the next day when it felt like a heavyweight boxer smashed the shit ought of my right side) and I'm due for another one. What they found in my case is similar to what they will find with alcoholics, and apparently this isn't uncommon. I forget the exact term used to describe it but due to the fact that I'm not an alcoholic (LOVE a GOOD beer, but never drank hard) the term would have an " N " in front of it. That is the bad news. Since I've been seeing this specialist, my liver hasn't gotten any worse, and maybe a slight bit better. The way it has been explained to me is that there is a 10% chance of me developing cirrhosis in the next 10 years. The first thing my Dr. did was put my on a very high dosage of Vitamin E as he has been following a study that vit E can help slow or perhaps reverse liver damage. Even though my live functions are like a roller coaster, he doesn't seem too concerned....where as my Rheumatologist gets a bit worried about them. It really cracks me up...my RD tells me no alcohol, no matter how little no matter what where as my Liver Specialist told me that if I want a beer, have one, but not to have more than 2 and don't do it everyday. That works perfectly for me as I doubt I ever drank more that 2 - 4 cases in a year in my life, which is between 48 to 96 beers per year...and since I've become ill I am definitely on the low side of that figure! I almost never have a beer when it is cold & dreary outside, which in NE Pennsylvania is about half the year!! Now, when I am cutting the grass and it is 90 degrees out, well than that grass isn't getting cut without me having at least 1 cold one! Besides, the beer I like is far from cheap! I love Sam and like Yuengling, both of which are close to $30.00/case these days....but I really like 's Imperial Stout (England) and that works out to just under $5.00 per bottle! I strongly advise you to find a goof liver specialist. I saw 3 before I found one I really liked. The other important note is to make sure to have all of your blood test results and MRIs ETC sent to each and everyone of your Dr's! Do whatever you can to get them to communicate and work together on your case. I have 4 main Dr's now and they all are involved in every decision. I think they appreciate it as much as I do.....especially in my case where 2 of my Docs are roughly 100 miles away from me & my other docs (PCP & Liver Specialist)..... In researching to see if there was anything that my Dr's may have missed when I first became ill it was noted that a few of my blood tests showed elevated liver functions, but whether that was a precursor or not is up in the air. Feel free to ask any questions you want. You can email me direct @ kbonanny@... if you desire to do so. I know how depressing it is when they keep on piling bad news on top of bad news, and I am very depressed much of the time (which is why I'm rarely on list anymore) but try not to let it get to you. Best of luck, Kirk > ** > > > My liver bloodwork has been fairly high over the last couple years. > My new Rheumatologist scheduled me for an appointment with a liver > specialist. Guest guest
I've had liver issues for years before the official onset of my Stills. An all vegan diet with 1000 vitamin E a day has helped my labs. Hope this helps. Rick
