Guest guest
Aubrey, I had a bleed last April and passed black, tarry stools all day before vomiting blood in the evening which is when I went to hospital. All that night and into the morning I passed black stools but I can't say I remember any particularly noticeable smell to them so maybe there wasn't one in my case. I am now taking Cozaar which is hopefully going to lower my portal hypertension. My two biggest esophogeal varices were banded but I still have some smaller ones and some small gastric varices now. When my specialist went in to band the smaller esophogeal ones in July he could not get the scope past my throat so if he tries again he will likely have to dilate it first. I had a barium xray recently which didn't show a stricture there so it was probably spasms that caused the problem. I am interested in the idea of not lifting anything heavy. At the time of the bleed I had been taking a self defence martial arts course once a week for two weeks and I wonder if that had anything to do with the bleed although it did not happen on the night of the class. I would like to take this class again but wonder if it would be too dangerous. I love martial arts. I will have to ask my specialist.
