Guest guest
HI Kathy, Oxycodone(Percoset)is the orginal form of the drug it takes about an hour for you to feel it reducing pain. Oxy IR And OxyFast, breaks down rapidly and is formulated to be absorbed into your blood tream faster. One is available in a capsule that disloves very rapidly and the " pellets " inside are very quickly disolveded and absorbed into your bloodstream. They are now being prescibed more comonly as a emergency med for pain paitients and also for people who are in acute pain. I have of some Wilderness SAR (Search & Rescue) friends from my days doing that, who have both it along with vials of morphine and fentanyl for injection in case of severe pain. They prefer to adminster the oral med as it is easier and requires less time and paper work and is less costly than a IM or IV injection. On the same note, OxyMorphone will be available in a rapid release capsule, or is already avialable. It is more potent than Morphine and requires a lower dose which usually translates into less side effects. It is also availabe in timed releasae. Something to talk to your MDs about if your long acting meds a cause side effects. The new med is called Opana. Hope this clears the confusion up and helps out.
