LOL want to trade ?? I hate the hot humid buggy weather of the midwest...it

IS green, but it's also a sauna in summer. 91F with humidity at 87% is NOT

my idea of good living

Jackie

I'm in AZ but would like to someday be somewheres green and rainy!

Ewww midwest...no way! I'm looking more towards Pacific Northwest,

like Oregon. But I hear more people are moving back to the Midwest

with real estate prices on the coasts (including Phoenix) being so out

of hand!

And this summer, when it hits 117, I'll walk out and think, " man, it

feels really HOT "

LOL I'd LIKE to move to CO, but it's considered a desert state with water

restrictions...and the house is awfully high, plus I can't find land way out

like I am here, and with no HOA or covennants..want nothing to do with

them..I have horses and I need to have my own space...

I live in Adelaide, South Australia. Well not so much ‘in’ Adelaide, I live

just out of the Barossa Valley. Summers are hot and dry, winters are (should

be) wet but mild. Perfect grape growing weather. BUT. All of southern

Australia is going through the worst drought in living memory. Last winter

it rained twice, lol. Do you want to trade that? This winter is expected to

be wetter than normal :-).

Ok....which one of you are going to send me a recipe for cornbread now? We had

tacos for dinner and with all this talk of tex-mex i'm dying for some awesome

corn bread and chili! I'll trade you all a kick-butt crab cake recipe for an

awesome corn bread recipe...any takers?

Just to keep this on topic I was curious at how good of cooks your mother's

are....my mother has always been a HORRIBLE cook! She can't even make the

macaroni and cheese that comes in a box...she refuses to take the time to read

directions. She cooks everything at the same temperature and for the same

amount of time....475 degrees for an hour. Seriously...my cousin is a chef and

he could only come up with a couple things that you bake at that high of a

temperature. (And they were all things that she can't pronounce...but she can't

even say whopper so that's not a stretch...she says whomper) It's amazing that

I can cook at all....I guess between my southern roots(Not to brag, but I make

the best sausage gravy and sweet tea this side of the Mississippi and I have the

blue ribbons to prove it...lol) and my Italian roots I was able to compensate!

(This little oriental lady that we go to church with has kicked my butt in the

Italian category several years running....i don't

even try anymore...she is fabulous!)

sits outside of their single wde, which has been taken over by coons and

feral cats...they live in the double wide LOL and old rusted cars and trucks

are everywhere...

south side. Particularly the car parts and feral cats. Just add armadillos lol!

My mother was an okay cook, but she really taught me almost nothing

about it, because my mere presence was such a horrible thing for her.

She did teach me how to stone an avocado. She didn't have the

patience to wait for me to do something right, which I apparently

couldn't do. And then after years of almost no teaching, at 11, she

told me to cook some fish up for dinner. She was in a bad mood and

she turned to me with this attitude like " why in the hell aren't YOU

making my life easier??? " She tossed this fresh fish that was in a

styrofoam container and told me to cook it and I said I didn't know

how. She yelled " what are you ????? STUPID???? " and stomped out,

and I think she laughed too. And apologies? Fuhgeddaboutit!

I think my nada is a terrible cook..but she can bake any dessert known to

mankind...guess thats why she is always 250-300+ pounds...I learned to cook

on my own...and whenever my parents would come to visit, she'd always

critize how I cooked...and would tell me I can't cook a pot roast on top of

the stove..I felt so sorry for my dad..I made fried catfish with cracker

coating and basil, and he loved it..and said so...and nada shot him a glare

that could kill ! My pot roast is always tender and tasty...nadas was

always like eating shoe leather...poor dad always compliments my cooking,

and gets himself in deep trouble

Hello all.

I am in Southern Indiana. Nothing special, just HOT! We could probably all

use a vacation, somewhere tropical, warm with a cool breeze blowing off the

ocean. A margarita it one hand (or for those of you who may not drink - a fruit

smoothie or something), and sun screen in the other. The best part, no nadas or

fadas able to to contact us. Hmmmm... That sounds so nice. Okay, fantasy

over. Anyway have a good day.

My mother was an absolutely wonderful cook. Only problem was she was

obsessed with it and with food. It was her one and only interest and

talent in life. She pursued no other hobbies. Dee

I live in San Francisco. I'm originally from Michigan, but did a stint

in Florida as well. (Go Gators.) Overall, I've found my home in SF and

would never move back. It helps that my Nada is back on the other

coast. The weather here is great, except for rainy season. I have a

great view of Alcatraz on my way to work, and can hear the trolly cars

and the boats on the bay from my office window. Oh- and I don't own a

car. I don't even know what gas prices have gotten to. I love that

there is always something happening here, and that I can walk to three

different coffee shops from my apartment. We have street festivals

during the spring and summer, ranging from the Beer and Oyster Festival

to the Filmore Jazz Festival. In my opinion, there's no better city in

the world to live.

We did a stint back in Florida too. Go Noles- LOL. My dh graduated

from FSU and I'm UCF so I'm a bit more neutral. But it gets hot and

heavy in dh's family during the football season. His older three

siblings also went to UF. Can't believe last year for Christmas they

sent dh a Noles keychain and me a Gators one! They're too much.

I've heard San Fran is beautiful. Want to get out there sometime. As

it is now, heading towards Vancouver for summer break. Not sure about

that one.

It is good to live far from Nada isn't it? While I'm not on the other

coast like you, I'm in Texas, I do know how liberating it feels that

the only way she can drop by is to take a plane- 1100 miles- woohoo!

Got an uncle who lives in Alaska though and there are times he's

threatened to move to China to get away from Grandnada.

When I was little, my mother hosted huge dinner parties and I think

she was an ok cook. But she hated cooking for us, and was very very

resentful. My father made all of our meals, and did all of the

shopping. When she cooked dinner, it woudl be because she

wanted/liked a particualr dish and she woudl make that same dish, over

and over again.

She too tends to cook everything at a very high heat. She is

frightened of food poisoning, though her hygiene practices would seem

to eblie this.
