Guest guest
Jodie, When Jillian had her hearing tested, I had 2 pediatricians and even an ENT tell me that if she had a hearing loss it would most likely be in her " CHARGE " ear(the floppy one) I told them all they were wrong , that I thought the loss would be in the other ear. (As an observant mommy, I thought even though the ear was shaped normal that the opening was 1/2 the size as her " CHARGE " ear) Guess who was right when she had the hearing test???.......Mommy, of course...... Anyway, she failed that newborn BAER test and at 5 months she had tubes put in and they want another hearing test and I have neer done it because she understands EVERYTHING I say to her no matter what tone of voice. I can be driving in the car and she can't even see my face and I speak to her and she responds to the question or comment. I ask her where her " nose " is, where her " toes " are and in a whisper, she distinguishes betewwn the 2 so I have no plans to get a hearing test. If she presents aproblem in the future, maybe, but this kid can hear a creek in the floorboard, so that's all the hearing test this mommy needs. Her new ENT even agrees with me. I didn't like her pediatric ENT so I am taking her to a reg. one who never heard of CHARGE and he's 10x's better than her old one!!!! Guest guest
Jodie, The type of aid will depend on the type of hearing loss. You may find some helpful information here: http://www.listen-up.org/hear-aid.htm Good luck, I hope things work out, I know it's always a shock when something new and unexpected pops up. We thought Kennedy's left ear had normal hearing for over a year, only to find out that she in fact had a moderate hearing loss in that ear. My only advice would be to get the aids on as quickly as possible. From: Cutch88@... Hi to all! it has been awhile since I've written...in fact I have been deleting many of the messages and only been reading the ones that pertain to my 2 year old daughter, Madison. She will be 2 1/2 on March 1st. The reason I am writing is because she just had her hearing checked last Friday and tell me that they think she may have a mild to moderate hearing loss. She has been tested many times before and always has come out with a borderline normal result. This was before she got her tubes in. Last Friday, was the first time she was tested since her tubes...I expected to get better results because in the past she was always fighting ear infections and fluid. However, she failed the OAE in both ears...previously she passed in one ear and partially passed in her CHARGE ear. This audiologist also said that she responded better towards her CHARGE ear...this makes no sense to me!!! Exactly one week before the hearing test, she had her tonsils removed (and adenoids)...could there be some correlation? (maybe some swelling?etc?) Or am I in denial? Anyway, we are having her tested again by the ENT this Friday...he needs tocheck her throat anyway. If they suspect some kind of loss too, then what are the next steps? How do they determine what type of aid is needed? The weird thing is that she got her tubes placed in November and since December, she has finally started to try to say some words!!! Sorry to be so longwinded! Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!
