Guest guest
I am only guessing--but, it seems like the internist would have more credibility than the GP. Have you been to any OTHER type of doctor?  (like rheumy, psychiatrist, etc).  But, it would be good to get BOTH of these docs to tell you that they will support your claim.....and then give them a copy of your limitations...and maybe even your application.  I also used my psychiatrist (he was prepared to delineate all of the psychological issues (depression, loss of self worth, etc etc) that he saw in me ....but, the SSA never called him.  They only called my rheumy--and did not send me to ANY of their doctors.  (thank goodness).....I DO believe that because my doctor had my application---AND, all of my limiting factors that I prepared for her....AND the fact that she supported my disability....that she was able to give them PLENTY of info when they called her at the office.  SHE WAS READY---I made it easy for her.  Do all that you can to prepare your doctor---have them keep the application in your chart...as well as any other paperwork that you think might be helpful to him/her. My rheumy had the personality of a snail.....SO, it wasn't her CHARM that won them over! Lynn ________________________________ Subject: Re: Re: Work? SSDI NOTES Good! How often is regularly? I could use my GP or my internist.... But I've also heard that since they are not specialists, they may be discounted... > You really only need a one or two doctors who see you regularly----ask THEM if they will support your claim for disability when you give them the list! Guest guest
My regular doctor at that time filled out the most important form for me, and he isn't a specialist. I do remember that he was always overextended and very busy. He told me he'd done my form, but I guess he didn't because I asked him as politely and courteously as I could a few times and finally he had me sit down while he filled it out. Now this doctor liked me and we might have been friends under other circumstances.....so I never knew if he filled it out to give me a break or to shut me up (and give himself the break!) But the important point was I only had that from him, a nonspecialist MD and my notes from the pain management specialist I *had* been with until he left my state. I assume both made a difference because the pain mgt spec knew the pain I was in, treated me both before and after my being hit by a car (in which I was thrown several feet, landing face forward) and had provided physical therapy, medication, and accupuncture. Still, my regular doctor filled out that form and it was accepted, with no other current notes from the pain mgt specialist who'd moved out of state by then. Know what I mean? Just do your best Olnisa, to get at least one doctor who agrees to support your claim, 2 is better- a rheumatologist would be good, but a pain mgt spec is good..but the internist or GP is better than no one! My psychologist was prepared to support my claim too, but she was not called just like Lynn was just saying. Re: Work? Guest guest
I have been to my sleep doctor--the primary doc that my case is built on--but I have other problems there, because I ran out of money to pay his co-pays (even though I have insurance) and he wont see me anymore. (He did some expensive tests for me which jacked up my co-insurance ) I went to a rheumy, who is in the same medical center as my pulmo, ent and internist. They all worked with me for my fatigue/shortness of breath/chest constriction symptoms, but I saw like 10 doctors (ents, pulmos....big practice) and no one is a point person, except the internist I guess. Oddly, when I saw the rheumy ( a few days ago--after waiting months) she just said, " You have fibro, just like the other docs said. " Huh. I thought the other docs said I " Probably have fibro/cfs " and I was hoping for confirmation. I guess I got my confirmation, but she didn't seem to think this was a new diagnosis. I didn't want to flood her with disability pleas on the first visit, but I don't have a lot of time, so I did ask, " who do I go to for paperwork? " , and she basically said, 'well your fibro is mild (which I know) and there isn't one doctor here who can speak to your fatigue, since you went to them just for your chronic cough. " My chronic cough, which CAUSED my fibro/cfs! Grrr. It's like nobody but me connected the dots. Or I am just crazy. This rheumy didn't give me any blood tests; she looked at what the internist did and said you have everything done. But then I went back to my records, and my ENT had ordered some addtl blood test for when I was to see a rheumy. I had forgotten about them, and she obviously didn't think of them.... She didn't seem to do anything really... I know this isn't my primary condition for applying for disability; my primary conditions are a couple of sleep disorders. But the sleep exacerabate the fibro/cfs symptoms and i think that is important... I saw a psychiatrist twice in the past year. I told him about my sleep disorders and disability app, and problems with hanging onto work over the years because of this, but I've only seen him twice. He didn't prescribe anything. And I presented myself pretty well; and he also gave me the feedback that he doesn't initially see anything in me that is causing this much turmoil in my work and personal life. So I don't think he can help me... Too bad I looked normal and well-adjusted, huh? Olnisa Re: Work?
