yes, but thats only common sense? as madge said, her husband already tried 3,

then was advised to try more, just because he takes 8 doesn't mean everyone

should, I know some diabetics where 1 tab raised them over 35 points. Depends

on your glucose factor.

I mean if your counting carbs you know how much the 4 carb glucose tab will

raise you.

Its obvious if bg isn't going up, of course you'd take more tabs, and this

can be a scary time, but at the same time trying not to end up in the roller

coaster effect or eating too many carbs.YMMV

You need to take whatever is necessary to help you start feeling

better. Then you need to eat something (normally carbish) that will

help keep your BG's up for an extended time period.

The faster, at least for me, I start " treating " the low, the shorter

the time I have the " low hangover. " If I have a low sneak up on me,

and it goes on for 10-20 minutes, I can be effected and feel bad for

the rest of the day.

It's common sense if you've had some experience with the problem. To

a new person, " common sense " is whatever WE say, so we need to

exercise caution in that regard.

I'm near obsessive about my record keeping, but have yet to establish

a relationship between carb consumption and BG rise, my body simply

doesn't react consistently enough to make such a correlation

(although I wish it would.)

All too often, the new people have been given some blanket

instruction by the doc or educator and, in their newness, tend to see

that as the only treatment option. Most of us have had enough

experience " outside the guidelines " to cover a broader range of

options.

Well, be patient in this regard, :-), after a while you'll get it down pat,

some people can go along time on the same regime, others it changes all the

time, thats why we need to test very frequently, it took me over 2 years, not

so much the carb/bg ratio, but for me the basal rate of my insulin.

I also am absessive in record keeping, its my job!!! LOL it comes natural to

me, I even made my own glucose, meds/food chart which my dr now gives to all

her diabetic patients.

I keep it for a day at a time on each sheet and fax them every week to my dr.

I also manage my own meds and insulin.

Also , we've had many posts here and other dm lists, just because someone is

new and is seeing a CDE and/nutritionist doesn't mean they believe every

word they're told, so many times we get posts saying how can someone just say

do this and do this much and not see your bg's and food, no I still think if

someone's bg is still too high with only say 2 glucose tabs, they'll by

nature eat more.

then the ones that suddenly realize these " pro's " telling them to eat a

certain way and its actually raising bg not lowering it, but JMHO of course.

Sure there are newbies who need constant guidence, others do not. Some do

think on thier own, LOL :-)

to find out how much a glucose tab raises bg, test it. While fasting, test bg

then eat 1 tab, test bg every 15 min, til it peaks, when it starts to go

down, you'll have your rise, also you will be able to see how long it takes

to start working.

Perhaps you would want to post this to the list, or I

think there is a way that it could go permanently into

the group site.

I'm really not sure how, but I think there is a way to

put special items.

Please forgive me. I'm very spaced out!
