Guest guest
-----Original Message----- From: Kkbhirsh@... Hi Arne, may I ask what Lefsa and rommegrot are? Sounds very tasty:) Sincerely, - you can think of lefsa as Norwegian soft tortillas, except they're made with mashed potatoes. They're frequently buttered and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon, then rolled into a tube. Rommegrot (the o's should have slashes through them) is the Norwegian national dish, and is made from sour cream. The best rommegrot is made from fresh, unpastureized sour cream (it does get cooked anyway). Here's the recipe for rommegrot http://www.sofn.com/recipes/rommegrot.html. These are all things I grew up with in South Dakota (very strong Norwegian influence - both sets of grandparents came from Norway). We always had lutefisk on Christmas eve. The rice pudding always had one almond in the bowl somewhere - whoever got the almond in their serving had the " luck " for the next year. This assumed my parents could keep us kids from digging through the bowl before it was served! Sons of Norway (joined with Daughters of Norway 50 some years ago) publishes many national dishes (http://www.sofn.com/recipes/recipes.html). Gotta go - have to put the sotsuppe (sweet soup, literally) and rullepolse (meat roll) on the stove. God Jul! (Merry Christmas).
