I don't know what you should try, but that whole zoloft/paxil/serzone route didn't work for me at all. I gained about 20 lbs too and started having seizures on the serzone. That freaked me out pretty good, so now I'm flying without a net and I've lost the weight again. No help at all sucks, but for me, it's better than those kind of meds. Darlene said she's gonna offer me some advice on natural stuff for anxiety, depression etc, but she hasn't told me what yet. She seems to be kinda preoccupied with something lately :-) btw - if you don't find a good alternative, don't feel bad if you need to take the zoloft or whatever. You need to do whatever works. Your side effects don't sound as bad as your symptoms (not to me anyway). But good luck finding something more agreeable to you. ronny World ACM Association http://www.pressenter.com/~wacma
Guest guest
, Just wondering...did you stop the Zoloft right away or did you wein-off of it over a period of many weeks? If you stopped it right away, that-in-itself would cause bad side effects. I used to be on Paxil and when i would forget one dose, i could tell...my mood, patience etc. would be totally differnet. When i decided to go off Paxil, it took me about 6 weeks to go off of it. kim kim-@... wrote: original article:/group/chiari/?start=22654 > Dear Group, > > I have a quick question about zoloft. Guest guest
Hi everybody, After I started taking Prozac, my doctor said, " You've gained the Prozac 10, now it's time to take it off. " So it doesn't help with weight loss for everyone. It seems be known to contribute to weight gain as well, probably just like Zoloft. Guest guest
I take 25 mg zoloft/day (can't hack 50 mg, turns me into a zombie) and it helps with my headaches and nausea. I never had mood swings or panic attacks (which is what zoloft is supposed to be really good for). <I've also gained almost 30 lbs in 18 months due to all the meds + reduction in a very physically active lifestyle> I " think " the reason SSRI's help is because they keep serotonin available to your nerves. Serotonin is an incredibly ubiquitous neurotransmitter which affects almost every function of your body. Here's a link to a VERY long, technical medical article on serotonin: http://fairlite.com/ocd/articles/ser90.shtml & here's some hi-lites for those who don't want to wade thru the whole thing: " Of the chemical neurotransmitter substances, serotonin is perhaps the most implicated in the etiology or treatment of various disorders, particularly those of the central nervous system, including anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, stroke, obesity, pain, hypertension, vascular disorders, migraine, and nausea. " " It is found in three main areas of the body: the intestinal wall (where it causes increased gastrointestinal motility); blood vessels (where large vessels are constricted); and the central nervous system (CNS). The most widely studied effects have been those on the CNS. The functions of serotonin are numerous and appear to involve control of appetite, sleep, memory and learning, temperature regulation, mood, behavior (including sexual and hallucinogenic behavior), cardiovascular function, muscle contraction, endocrine regulation, and depression. Peripherally, serotonin appears to play a major role in platelet homeostasis, motility of the GI tract, and carcinoid tumor secretion. This represents quite a broad spectrum of pharmacological and psychological effects, considering the fact that the average human adult possesses only about 10 mg of 5-HT. Subsequent to his discovery of serotonin, Page commented that no physiological substance known possesses such diverse actions in the body as does 5-HT. " Well, there's my 25 cents worth <grin> June in CA dx of POTS, dimwit neuro says mri's normal enuff, waiting for Dr. Batzdorf. Cisi@... wrote: > Dear Group, > > I have a quick question about zoloft. Guest guest
Hi , You were probably still full of the medicines when you started the 5HTP? And are you taking other medicines? If so, that too could affect the 5HTP. And remember herbs and supplements do not work like drugs, i.e. with a kick you feel right off, but often it can take months before you notice the benefits. At night I will sometimes take 5HTP with my Kava Kava, and it helps me sleep. Sometimes just the Kava Kava is needed. Now my sister doesn't do well with either, so it is a very individualized combo. If the Zoloft is helping you so well, go slow with changing... Prozac gave me the most terrible headaches as did Wellbutrin. And doing anything abruptly can lessen the effectiveness... Good luck, Luella

Prozac has been used specifically for help with weight loss, as that is its "usual" tendency, but it still can have the opposite effect. A lot of people diagnosed with FMS, who seem to now have a very high incidence of Chiari (since the commonality was discovered) have completely opposite reactions to many meds (me included). I guess the only way to really know is to try the medication and see what happens! Bummer, huh?? Good luck to all!! Blessings, Sharon in Nashville sharon-palmer@... Recently dx'd with ACM P.S.
