Hair and surgery

I have a question, probably mostly for you gals! *G* Since it looks

like surgery is probably imminent, I am wondering . . . I'm guessing

that if I need to have anything "chemical" done to my hair (perm,

highlights), I need to do it before surgery. Since I will have those

sutures, or staples, or whatever I wind up with, I assume that chemical

treatments of my hair would be frowned upon for quite a while

afterwards?? (Not to mention that it will be very delicate and sore

back there?!)

I need a perm, but can't really afford it right now, yet if I wait too

long, it may not happen at all. I usually wait at least 6-8 months

between perms (mine last that long, and I don't like to dry my hair out

by overdoing it!) It hasn't been quite that long yet, but I don't want

to be left in the lurch.

My hairdresser is great, and pads the sink for me since it is so

painful to rest my neck on that sink otherwise! Especially since I

have lots of hair, and it weighs a ton with those rods and

liquid in it!! (Owwwwww!) Even with the padding, I can count on a

painful experience, sometimes for days afterwards!

What have your docs told you about chemical processing in your hair

after surgery? How long were you advised to wait??

Thanks so much!!

Blessings,
