Guest guest
Dear All, I was wondering if running is a very good thing for us to do. Personally, I will never do it again as I noticed a few years ago after I ran after my cat that my symptoms exploded. Someone on the list mentioned her teeth hurting after running. After all, if we are to wear highly-cushioned shoes to avoid jarring our heads, we should take that to mean running is out of the question. I put running on the same par as wild amusement park rides. Again, each to his own. Suzanne H., ACM 1, 20mm, decompressed January 13, 1998.
Guest guest
Dear Suzanne, Re. Running and Chiari. I am sure running cant be good for you, whether you have ACM/SM or not. I never saw the advantage of pounding concrete , (cross country running excepted), its so bad for your feet and back. Give me a bike any day of the week. The lowly bicycle is the most effective converter of energy into motion known to man (or woman for that matter). Plus they dont hurt your extremities, as long as you get it set up right and wear the right kit. I have got back on my bike and that is with Hydrocephelus to make life harder. In this weather I would rather go out on the bike than the car. Though it might be differant State Side, our cars dont have air conditioning (well not most of them). Regards from Manchester the one in UK not NH.
Guest guest
I know of a person who created major complications from jumping on a trampoline. The doctors at the Miami conference last weekend also explained about pulse pressure that causes the spinal fluid to push its way into the spinal cord causing a syrinx. I would definitely not take the chance of aggrivating my condition with the pounding pressure of running. Walking and swimming are the right exercises for us.
