I thought I should share with you my first experiment scooting around a local

mall that is never busy. I wanted to try getting on and off an elevator etc. All

was going well so I decided to try going up and down the aisles in the dollar

store. Doing real well until I got to the section where they have racks of foil

and kitchen things. I leaned forward to point out to Don what I wanted. My

purse, which was on my knees, hit the forward lever and I ran into one of the

displays. Foil containers of every size went flying everywhere. Two clerks came

running to see if I was okay then proceeded to pick up all the stuff from the

floor. Don did not realize what had caused the problem, told everyone within ear

shot that this was a trial run with a new scooter and I needed more practice

<G>. All I could think of was, thank goodness it was a dollar store and that it

didn't happen in the aisle with all the glassware etc. Needless to say that is

one store I will not be shopping in for a long time. Don said they will probably

post a sign on the window saying no scooters allowed.

The good part is I learned not to carry a large purse on my knee and also when

you stop to look at something, pull the key up to eliminate what I just did.

Later on I decided to read the manual and, yes, there was a full page of

warnings that I should have read. Don has been warned not to mention any of

this to the boys when they come today.

I made 2 ham and cheese quiches for lunch to have with a salad containing

mandarin orange and blueberries. Now I am ready to make a loaf of French bread

to accompany our lunch. Have a chocolate cake for dessert that I pulled out of

the freezer, so the kids will have lots to take home.

Hugs

June

Hi June,

Well first of all, I won't laugh because at least you are out using

your scooter and learning how to do things! But I might make one

suggestion, for your own safety at least--try not to carry a purse,

but maybe strap on a fanny pack so that it rests on your lap and you

can reach in to get whatever you need? I found a larger-sized one

that I like and actually used it yesterday. I had surgery on my arm

Friday, and wanted to do a little shopping yesterday before the

snowstorm hit, but I couldn't carry my purse and use my cane too, so

my daughter found this neat little powder blue fanny pack that just

holds my wallet, ID, checkbook, car keys, and chapstick. Sometimes I

do use a scooter when my hips are hurting, and I have read cases

where women have had their purses snatched off their laps, so just be

careful. And keep on shopping! Remember, when the going gets tough,

the tough go shopping!

Oh, and your lunch sounded so good I actually baked a cake!

Peace,

Judi in snowy Indiana
