Guest guest
Hello Margot & All, I can understand your remarks, Margot, but I must contend that there is no proof that smoking marijuana leads to harder drugs. I am 41 y/o & have smoked pot since I was a teenager. It has not weakened my mind in the least. I graduated college with Honors (cum laude) in 1991, then went on to graduate school where I did equally well. I have successfully accomplished many feats in my lifetime. Not to seem conceited, but I have more intelligence & common sense than 90% of the straight population. As for the younger crowd/patients, they are exposed to a more dangerous, LEGAL drug everyday & that is alcohol (not to mention cigarettes). I would much rather have my child smoke a joint than drink a few beers. You say we that want it legalized are self indulgent, etc. That is NOT TRUE! I am all for legalization for medicinal purposes. Hell, give me a patch or a pill. I don't necessarily want to smoke it as long as I can get the effect of relaxation that it provides. People go to the Dr. & he/she prescribes drugs that are much more addicting & detrimental to the body. We discuss painkillers, muscle relaxers, nerve blocks, anxiety meds, etc., & yet we are irresponsible for talking about this subject? As for the scientific proof you mention, I would love to see your source of information as studies that I am aware of have not concluded with certainty that marijuana is detrimental in any form so far. As a matter of fact, my Dr. knows I smoke & he says if it makes me feel better & improves the quality of my life, then go ahead & do it. It obviously helps patients with intense pain or the states that have legalized it for medicinal purposes would not have done so. It's only a matter of time before the THC patch or pill will be approved. Is a THC patch or pill acceptable if it comes with a prescription written by a Dr.? BTW, I have several " pothead " & " acid-head " friends who have many children who are all healthy & intelligent, so there goes that theory. I want to live my life as pain free as possible & plan to do so. Remember, staunch republican F. Buckley has been advocating the legalization of pot for over a decade. I am totally against legalizing LSD, Cocaine, Crack or the likes, because they are dangerous, but I don't see where pot is as dangerous as Demerol, Lortabs or Valium & the Drs. hand these out left & right & they are physically addictive, whereas pot is only psychologically addictive (darn right I like the way it makes me feel). No arguing, JMHO (just my humble opinion). a
