Hi Barbara,

About the malpractice thing, I have already forgotten about it. More

pressing issues at hand to deal with. My grandmother is on the warpath

again and we are not to blame. She is so jealous of me and my mom that

it is almost impossible for us to carry on a conversation without her

butting in about some nonsense that is not even related to our topic of

discussion. Or like Saturday night she tries to physically come between

us so we can't see each other when we talk. She wants us out of her

house and I would be glad to go except that I don't have any money coming

in right now and am waiting for worker's comp check to arrive. The

kicker is my medical insurance (Medicaid HMO) has approved the surgery

and it is set for August 21. However if my worker's comp check gets here

before then, medicaid will be canceled and the surgery will have to be

postponed until worker's comp approves it. We have been trying to get

them to approve it for 3 weeks now with now success, that is why we tried

medicaid. Anyway, I just hope the surgery takes place before the

worker's comp money gets here or it will be even longer before I can have

this surgery that might help me.

Then there is the fear of the surgery itself. Never been done before,

might help, shouldn't be any complications, etc. I trust my doctor, he

has an excellent bedside manner and he is a leader in his field, an

excellent surgeon on the " cutting " edge of technology. I know he can do

this it's just knowing that it has never been done before. I have to

believe it will work and go ahead with it as there is no other treatment

alternative now. Keep your fingers crossed........August 21, 2000 at

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital on Greasham Drive in Norfolk, Virginia

at 7:30 am. This will be the surgery that either helps me or makes

things much worse. The deciding factor in how I spend the rest of my

life painwise. I hope it works!!!!!

I have decided to let my son go with a friend to Atlanta, GA to visit

with his friend's dad from August 14 thru September 5, that way I won't

have to worry about him when I have this surgery and he will be out of

Grandma's hair for a few weeks. No phone calls, no doorbell ringing or

boys working on bikes in the backyard, no boys dripping wet from swimming

in the lake walking to the kitchen for refreshments. It's too quiet

already!!! I miss him already and he is not even gone yet. He has never

been away from me for more than 3 days before so this is a big adventure

for him. He has never flown on a plane before either so there will be

many firsts. They are taking their stunt bikes as Atlanta has many bike

parks and skate parks where they can go. My brother was kind enough to

loan me the money for the trip until my comp gets started. I have

borrowed from him before and always pay him back with interest and he is

not worried about it. He just got a new job making $200/week more than

he was so he is very happy right now. I wish he had a happier life and

am working on that for him. His home life here with grandmother has not

been easy and he hides in his room on his computer playing internet games

with his net friends. My grandmother probably will not change and to me

that is sad for she is missing out on so much by being so strict and

rigid, critical of everything anyone says or does. She drives you away.

Anyway, my brother and I go bike riding at a local park that has miles of

trails occasionally but my grandmother always gets angry when we do.

Well, Barbara, enough of that. Things are moving along, finally, for me

with the leg now and I am hoping this will help. I hope you are getting

things in place with worker's comp so you can get the blocks done. It

was 3 years before my comp case was settled but I got the blocks 4

months after the accident. I don't know how that worked, my attorney

handled it. The hospital repeated the blocks before the first year was

over and I got them when I needed them even before the case was settled.

My doctors treated me and I got my meds by signing for them. This time

things were different and it has been more difficult. I had to apply for

medicaid when the first carrier stopped paying. Otherwise I would have

had to pay for everything or not gotten treatment. I would have had to

go without treatment as I have no money so I am fortunate I have a minor

child which qualified me for medicaid. Once he is 18 I will have trouble

if this ever happens again, unless I have a baby!!!! That is not going

to happen!!!!! No way!

Hey, that's a thought! Those of you who don't have insurance or haven't

settled worker's comp cases yet, get pregnant! That automatically

qualifies you for medicaid! You would be covered until your child is 5 I

believe! That way you can get the treatment and meds you need! LOL

Just a thought!

I will write more to the group later. I have to get to my son's school

and blast his teacher. I hate it when teachers pick on boys! Anyway,

Mom to the rescue, I hope! Take care, Debbie/DJ

Debbie,

I don't have a child and I qualify for the Medicaid program called medically

needy. And that is even after getting my monthly SSI check. I think you

will find that you still qualify if you have no income even with a minor

child.

Good luck on you surgery, mine is on the 22 of August.

The first set of nerves blocks has really given me some relief from the new

back and leg pains that where setting in. Maybe after the third set I won't

even need the surgery, I can dream that at least.

Felice
