Guest guest
What kind of symptoms did you have with the polyp before going into the doctor? I am having a d & c and a hysterscope because of my abnormal bleeding and cramping on my right side and he suspects polyps. Thanks. Sandy >I had a polyp removed last year in the doctor's office. Guest guest
I had mid-cycle bleeding. That was my only symptom. I don't recall having any cramping.
Guest guest
I have an orange size fibroid and my gyn suggest having a myomectomy. She would prefer I have a hysterectomy. Her reason is that at my age (43)why not have it done, especially if I am not planning on having kids. If I really, really want to have kids, she will do the myomectomy. Has anyone out there had a myomectomy perform, if so, how was the recovery? She claims after a myomectomy, there are chances of having infections, damage to other organs, etc. I think she is trying to scare me into having the hysterectomy.... Guest guest
Delores: We are in the same boat. My doctor said the same thing because of my age, 44, and that I don't want any more children, she recommended a hysterectomy in February. She was very flippant and condenscending with me when I asked her wasn't there anything else that can be done. This is a terrific web site and there are other women who have been through this with their doctors. I have been seriously considering the uterine fibroid embolization procedure and have gotten remarkable response from other women. I have heard from women that have had the myomectomy and the hysterectomy but I decided why should I go through such a radical surgery if there is another option. I have a doctor's appointment Thursday and I will see what this doctor says. I refused to go back the one that I've been seeing for the past two years. What gets me is that doctors wait until the fibroid gets big. Why don't they just remove it when it is first detected. They wait until they can recommend the must radical surgery as though this gives them pleasure to do this. There are other options besides the two that she gave you please look into them and ask other women. Gwen Shanklin

Actually, the intraoperative and post-operative complication rates for hysterectomy are as high if not higher than myomectomy. In addition, there is no evidence that the collective, long-term complications from hysterectomy are less than a myomectomy whatsoever. Probably far greater. A myomectomy is an excellent option for this type of fibroid as is UFE depending upon the location and size of the fibroid. I would be concerned about any gyn that paints the complications from a myomectomy as being potentially worse than the complications from a hysterectomy. I just returned from the UFE conference in Washington, D.C. and am working on a report to post to the group later today. It was most interesting and I was thrilled to meet many of the interventional radiologists that are on this list group as well as a few others that I have corresponded with over the past year. By and large, terribly lovely physicians who are sincerely excited about what they can do to contribute to helping women with uterine fibroids. There was not enough time to meet or speak with everyone that I wanted to -- but I did have an opportunity to meet with Woodruff from London, Rob Kirsch from Philadelphia, Spies from town, and many others. On a personal note, my sister's physical mobility from the removal of her cerebellum (due to her brain tumor) has been completely incapacitated. She has, however, been discharged from the hospital and is under my mother's care. So are her 4 young boys. My mother just retired in July from a lengthy career as an accountant and was looking forward to relaxing some...but I think she's just been handed a task that will keep her busy for quite some time. Raising 4 rowdy grandchildren. She seems to have rolled up her sleeves and taken on this new responsibility as though it was meant to be and spends her days loving and caring for my sister and her children. It breaks my heart. But there is little that any of us can do. We all have chapters of pain and sorrow in our lives. The joy is in learning to love so deeply what moments we do have with those we care about. Thank you to all of you who expressed concern over my sister's condition and the toll it was taking on me and my family. It was most sincerely appreciated. Guest guest
Has anyone had a fibroid removed by laproscopy? If so what was the recovery time? I have had two myos so I know the recovery time is 5-6 for that but I have never had a laproscopy done. My fibroid is around 6cm. Please help Robyn >
Guest guest
Deloris: I am 31 and have had two myos already. If I can go through two you can certainly go through one. My concern with your gyn is that maybe she hasn't performed that many and that is why she is scaring you. My first gyn did leave me sterile. I had adhesions all over and everything was stuck to one another. This time I had a reproductive endocronoligist who specializes in these type of surgerys and my recovery went great and she removed all of the adhesions and didn't even have to cut into the uterus. If you don't feel comfortable with getting a hysterectomy go to another doctor. I was off of work for 4 weeks and then just had to take it easy for another two. I the second one done this past April and I feel great. I do have another fibroid that has come back. But that's another story. Feel free to email me with any particular questions Robyn " Hastye, Deloris W. " wrote: > I have an orange size fibroid and my gyn suggest having a myomectomy.
