Guest guest
Our department has several celebrities in our community, no we do not treat them any differently because everyone is treated the same with utmost respect and care and concern. We do not give out names on the radio, because of the class of people in our community the dispatchers are taught from the beginning customer service. Hope this helps out Good Luck. a
Guest guest
Lord, have mercy!!!! Celebrities in beautiful downtown Bellefontaine???? We have our own self-proclaimed " celebrities " - those who serve in public office for local government. They just HATE to have to call us. God forbid those peons in scannerland would actually hear an officer dispatched to their residence or their 10-27's given out to an officer who has responded to a brawl in the parking lot of a local speakeasy. It matters not how they hold forth in the courthouse and city building during the week.. on the weekends they're just another puke-thru-the-nose-drunk in a parking lot. Lyn P.S. Actually we do have a well-known author, Alan Eckert, who lives in our fair city, but he is a decent, respectable gentleman who never calls. > > I was just wondering if anyone here has ever had to take a call from a > celebrity/very famous person and/or dispatch resources to their residence

Tom was from Oskaloosa, Iowa and a huge Hawkeye fan. During one game, both Tom & Roseanne barred their rear ends to display matching tattoos to the people in the stands. Someone called the local constabulary to tell them to have Roseanne keep her pants on. No lie! Guest guest
At 12:36 PM 11/12/2000 -0500, (zzerk@...) wondered: >I was just wondering if anyone here has ever had to take a call from a >celebrity/very famous person and/or dispatch resources to their residence? Do >you treat these cases any differently? Do you avoid sending them over the air >so that the media won't rush to the scene? Just curious... This isn't a " brag " but Monterey County, CA has a rather large population of resident celebrities. (Unlike " Hollywood, " where tourists go looking for celebrity homes, the famous folks around here sort of blend in.... I guess we're pretty used to them. Clint Eastwood married a local TV newswoman and he has always been a whole lot easier to deal with than she was before they married. Odd. Local news reporters tend to think they're far more important than " real " celebrities. I dunno, maybe he's given her some tips about how to be humble instead of demanding..... During major events such as the AT & T Pro-Am Golf Tournament, there's a huge influx of celebrities and also a massive migration of tourists who delight in celebrity-watching activities. This is far more of a pain than day-to-day dealings with the famous folks....) We don't treat any of 'em any differently than regular folks. Well, unless they get snooty, in which case I would hazard a guess that some of us rather delight in being absolutely rigid in following protocols. I know it ticked ME off many years ago when a famous individual demanded some special treatment - I won't say who it was, but he had a " wonderful, warm, friendly " stage persona that didn't present itself on ANY occasion he contacted law enforcement. My first encounter was when he dialed 9-1-1 and demanded that we run the license plate of a car that was at the bottom of his driveway (outside the closed gate but visible to him on his security cameras). He wanted to know who it was out there... Well, I was happy to send a deputy to check out the 'suspicious vehicle' but I wasn't about to tell HIM registered owner information like that. He became abusive. The sergeant who responded glanced at the registration before he headed out so he wouldn't have to ask for it over the air. <grin> He didn't tell Mr. Supposed-To-Be Warm Wonderful Celebrity who the car belonged to, either. It was gone before he got there - apparently it had simply used the small turnaround outside that gate to stop, check a road map, and then leave. The sergeant got an earful of " you WORK for me! " and he wasn't impressed, either. Every contact with that particular famous guy was like that: imperious, demanding and discounting " us " as anything more than his personal servants. He even had his alarm system provide his address as " #1 " because he built his home at the very top of a hill, although the actual address was a 3-digit number. (Since we didn't provide the residents' names in burglar alarm dispatches - for ANY address, under normal circumstances - the responding deputies had a heck of a time finding the address the first few times that alarm came in. Giving the name as a last resort got irritated responses that the address had to be wrong.... That one sergeant who'd already encountered Mr. W-A-W responded at last, telling him he was delaying appropriate response to his home due to his " preference " in listing a more important sounding address! That went all the way to the sheriff.... but eventually the alarm company started providing the actual address. Oh, and false alarm activations are fined, after a while - but apparently that wasn't a problem for that particular resident. We didn't have a " no response " policy after a certain number of false alarm activations...) He was the exception to the rule, though - the great majority of the movie stars, political movers-and-shakers and other such famous folks who reside around here are truly just regular folks who just happen to have to live with the fact that complete strangers recognize them. Hey, we ARE public servants, but everybody gets the same deal. When notoriety of certain individuals requires extra attention, such as dignitary protection, or simply crowd control, there are procedures for those situations that don't necessarily vary by the name of the person involved. A local member of the State Assembly was recently involved in an injury accident and the media attention resulted from his own phone calls from the hospital - but that was more of an investigative reporting situation than a " lookee-loo, let's go stare at the public safety response to the scene " kinda thing. Oh, and I've personally taken calls from a slew of famous folks. <shrugging> So have several of our dispatchers. It's not that big a deal, perhaps because every person is an important one in his/her own mind; more " nobodies " are problem callers than are any of the " real " celebrities. After a small city's council member gets snooty with ya, dealing with a famous movie star or other important person is not at all difficult. <grin> One night I was idly watching Letterman and an actor mentioned that his car had broken down in a remote area the previous day.... it was quite an amusing story, because he mentioned how long he'd been out there until the tow truck got him and his disabled vehicle to a car dealership - nearly 90 miles further away - where he'd simply purchased another one (out of sheer pique). Hmmmm, I thought - that's in our dispatch area! So, the next day, I asked around, and yup, we'd called that tow truck for him. The dispatcher kind of smiled and said, " He was really nice. I KNEW the name was familiar, but I thought.. nah...... not out there on that highway! Oh well, guess even famous people buy cars that break down in the middle of nowhere, just like you and me. Guest guest
We frequently make alarm runs to Don Mattinngly's home here in good ol' patch, Indiana, his home town. They're never live. We don't treat them any differently than other alarm runs. I wasn't working at dispatch when we had the film " League of Their Own " filming here, so I don't know if there were any runs involving Tom Hanks, Madonna or Geena . We recently had former Prez Bush in town for some kind of fund-raising meal and some local big-wigs house, other than providing a special detail and escort, there were no incidents... ============================================= kevbayer911@... It eventually turned into a request for a plane to transport his son because he was in an accident. tried calling his son in his dorm room but no one knew where he was.
