The only thing I can remember other than alarms at their houses ...

A few weeks ago the wife of one of our county commissioners called in a

report of domestic violence, and we had to arrest him. Of course it looked

political, considering that he was the most vociferous opponent of the

sheriff's budget over the summer ... but of course, there was PC and he went

to jail in all his drunken glory.

There were no tears shed for the man amongst the troops. (The booking photo

of his drunkenness was rather comical, that got posted all over the

facilities).

We've had several sports figures (current and ex), Rap & rock stars and we

also had the Summit of 8 and the Pope here. The Summit of 8 and the Pope

were big to do's, lots of planning and they were treated like royalty here.

But when a person in thats in the public eye screws up, we treat about the

same as the any other citizens (mosly they've been DUI or DOMV), the cops

probably treat them differently on the street, but we try to keep things

consistant no matter who you are.

Do

you treat these cases any differently? Do you avoid sending them over the

air

so that the media won't rush to the scene? Just curious...

I've gotten calls from 2 radio " personalities " . One is obnoxious on the

radio -- he's the only person in the world who can be right with an ego that

the planet can't hold -- and what a snot about what he was reporting.......

the other is a female reporter who is on TV and her commentaries on TV are

excellent -- she presents both sides of the story, presents the information

clearly and seems to really enjoy what she is doing. I've gotten her on the

phone twice and she gives very clear, pertinent information - the second time

I took a second to tell her how much I enjoy her news stories and she was

surprised I knew who she was. I told her that her stories are always well

done and seem very factual and I learn from them. She said she didn't think

anyone ever knew her name. That was that.

In Northern California we DO have a number of celebrities like Huey ,

the Grateful Dead, Eddie has a house up here.....but they don't do the

calling -- or at least don't use their real names with they do.

I work in an area of multi-million dollar homes, and we have quite a few of

the NASCAR drivers, Carolina Panthers, and Charlotte Hornets living in the

area. We basically handle them the same as anyone else. Our department is

very customer service oriented and we respond to every call for assistance

the same way. Jeff Gordon was our biggest pain. He would call on 911 to

say someone turned around in his driveway. He had a gate, but someone

pulled in and then backed up. The other time was when he lost the Winston

due to running out of gas, someone put a gallon gas can at the end of his

driveway. Fortunately, he has moved to Florida.

Some of the newly rich who live in the area are more of a pain in the ass

because they feel they are owed something. I have found they are more

concerned what their neighbors do and will call to complain. Also their

children are the major problems. It is as if they will do no wrong. We get

multiple break-ins on vehicles where the people leave laptop computers, cell

phones, and multiple other electronic toys in plain view in unlocked

vehicles. We have caught a number of these juveniles lately, and the

problem is that they are getting younger.
