Guest guest
Dear Melody: Gee, your periods sound pretty normal to me. That is to say, I also have periods that last up to 21 days at a time. I have also had to battle serious depression after finding out that I have fibroids and being told that I need major surgery to get rid of them. It sounds like you might need to find a different doctor, one who won't dismiss your concerns just because he considers you a " headcase. " You deserve answers to your questions. Guest guest
Hi Melody, I will try to help. I am an old pro. I started periods at age 11 and have been having them ever since. I am currently 55 years old. What your doc means by normal is 2 things - 1 cycle and 2 your blood loss Regular cycle - so many days per month normal cycle can be 24to 32 days that is from the first day of your period to the first day of the next period. Some peopl have shorter cycles and some longer and they do change with your age. Regular flow is so many days of flow per month for you - that can be 3 to 7 days from the first day of flow to the last day of flow. Some people bleed for only 2-3 days and some for 5-7 days. Your period are abnormal if they are very heavy - saturating pad and tampons, very long (over 7 days) and irregular (say 18 days, then maybe 26 days, do you know what I mean They are unpredictable. You find yourself not getting when you are supposed to or getting it when you are not supposed to. The best thing is you must, absolutely must write it down on your calendar every single day until you know your normal cycle. You would be surprised how many times we think it is not normal and then go over the calendar and realize yes indeed this is normal. Try it out and see how it goes Terri 'normal menses?' > Hi, > My name is Melody and I have a question, which to me sounds strange, > but here goes. Guest guest
hi Melody, I read your post and I don't think I am understanding you - let me ask you a question about your cycles. First let me explain this: The first day of any woman's cycle is the day one (day 1) of her period then you count all the way to day one (day 1) of your next period. That is your cycle. Count the days from day 1 of first period to day 1 of next period. It's always DAY ONE -TO DAY ONE . You should find your cycle is about 20, 24, 28, 32 days something like that. I think from your post they may be 28 days - but you check and see what you get. If you have it marked on the calendar go back and check them. BYE for now, Terri 'normal menses?' > Hi, > My name is Melody and I have a question, which to me sounds strange, > but here goes. Guest guest
Liz, I have just changed doctors, but have only seen her one time and that was when she diagnosed the Fibromyalgia. I was supposed to see her on Friday, but will have to change my appointment, since my body decided that I needed to get rid of some more blood. How thrilling. I know that Terri replied to me earlier and she said that I needed to keep close track which I have been doing. Thanks, Melody It sounds like you might need to find a different doctor, one who > won't dismiss your concerns just because he considers you a " headcase. Guest guest
Melody: Yeah, I know what it's like to have your " flow " rearrange your life for you! I had to reschedule with one doctor 3 different times because my periods just wouldn't cooperate. Hope you have better luck with this doctor answering all your questions about what a normal cycle should be. Liz
