Terri:

I don't know if this will help but I was just prescribed Prometrium to help

maybe regulate my cycles. I was on clomid but the fibroid keeps growing and

this month my cycle was 46 days so they want to try progesterone. I am

supposed to start it decmeber 1. From what I read it is totally natural. I

ahve to take 4 tablets at bedtime because it makes you drosy. You can only

get it by prescription.

Robyn,

We are taking the same hormone then. I did not know it was available in the

US. I take 2, 100 mg capsules at bed time. They are white and round. Kind

of sticky to swallow- need lots of water. I started taking just the

Prometrium alone - no estrogen on the 1st day of Nov. and so far have not

had a period. I feel pretty good, but the nausea and light headedness

bothers me. I also noted that you must take these tablets just before going

to bed as they make me very, very dizzy. For example, you cannot take them

before a shower or something - you would be too dizzy. They do make you

sleep just like a baby.

Robyn, will you take anything else with them?

You say 4 tablets - is that 400 mgs? That seems high, but if you had a 46

days cycle, I can see why.

Where did you see it is natural - are you sure? I cannot find that

anywhere. Perhaps I am not understanding the sheet in the box with the

pills. I think " progesteron " is the term for natural progesterone and and

" progestin " in the term used for the synthetic form. Prometrium on my sheet

is refers to progestrone as a natural hormone, but I don't see anywhere on

the sheet that Prometrium is natural. Is is because it comes from a plant?

I don't understand what makes it natural? Maybe I'm just being paranoid. I

hope it does help you. I'm feeling pretty good now that I am off estrogen.

keep me posted,

Terri

Terri:

This is the first time I have ever been prescribed this medication.

I just looked at my bottle and it is 100mg and I need to take 4 of them.

What are the size effects? She did say take it at bedtime because

of dizzyness. Why is that I wonder. I am 31 and am only taking them

becasue I am having surgery on December 22 to remove another fibroid and

we don't want my period to occur that week which it might since my schedule

is so screwed up.

Here is the web site I found the information on this drug.

Robyn,

100 mg is the lowest dosage. It is usually taken on a daily for women in menopause. They take 1 a day alone or 1 with an estrogen pill usually .625mg. The 200mg of Prometrium is the next higher dosage and it is usually taken 2 alone or again with estrogen, but taken on a cycle during and then stooped. Once it is stopped, the period may or may not start - all depends. Some women have periods on the cyclic method, some do not.

Now for you and I, we are taking it as a therapeutic hormone to control the heavy periods, to prevent hyperplasia and to balance estrogen dominance which has caused some of the problems we have been having.

They do make you very, very sleepy and dizzy, but it is OK. I actually looked forward to taking them. No hot flashes and a very good nights sleep. Your doctor most likely prescribed them to keep you from getting another period and he does not want to give you estrogen.

hope that helps,

good luck, I thing you will do fine,

Terri

Terri:

Thanks for you information. I will let you know how I do on them. I

don't start until December 1st. I am still on this months cycle. Maybe

it will help my fibroid shrink a little bit also . Who knows. I hate

being a woman sometimes.
