And as we know, its better to react accordingly than be sorry later. Many years ago I had a job flash on my screen late one evening for a violent domestic involving a firearm. The caller said he heard some yelling and screaming come from a house, and saw someone run out the front door holding what looked like a rifle. This person yelled something before running back inside the house. I sent sufficient police who set up a perimeter around the house, and had a chat with the caller. We did all our checks on the premise, did history checks on owners of vehicles parked in the driveway, spoke with neighbours and everything came up zilch. The Sgt in charge even turned down his radio and stood along side the house in the shadows to have a listen for any sounds in the house, but all was relately quiet. The Sgt made a decision to go ahead and enter the house. Once inside, one of the crews called up on the radio, " Urgent - we need an ambulance! " I asked for the nature of injuries and how many injured, expecting them to tell me someone has been shot. The reply? ................. " A woman's having a baby! " You see, it wasn't a domestic, violent or otherwise, at all. What was heard and seen by the caller, was a woman yelling to tell her husband she was going into labour, and apparently him loosing his cool in the excitement of the moment. But, what about the caller seeing someone run out of the house yelling and carrying a rifle that night? Well....... there was a couple dogs in the man's front yard doing what dogs do when one of them is on heat. The man ran outside with a broom to shoo them away, and the caller thought he was witnessing something more sinister. You never know........until it's all over. Unless of course, your crystal ball is in fine working order.
