Guest guest
We found that buying 4 or so pounds of ground beef and frying it up at one time is a big help we then drainit in a colander set in a 9 x 14 " pan with a paper towel in it then cool it in the refrigerator - We put it in quart size freezer bags - about 1/2 pound per bag - or what you would use - really helps - we can get one or two bags out and thaw it in a frying pan or microwave and add to what ever we are cooking. I recently started putting the quart size bags (that I put each serving in and pressing air out before sealing) in a gallon size bag keeps it together in the freezer This cuts down time if you want ground meat - we used to freeze it in patties and that was hard to thaw and break up You can do this with ground turkey but you have to add water to it when browning because it has no fat in it to moisten it in cookin Subject: Re: Eating healthy tips These are great Margaret. I'm going to talk to my family bout all these myself.:-) I don't have a lot of great  tips like you do, but what I do is stuff like making a large amount of chili, or spaghetti sauce and freezing them. Then it's simple enough to just boil noodles. When we buy chooped meant we separate it up and freeze it and it can be defrosted as you're cooking if you don't like the microwave defrost.so I buy McIntosh apples which are in season for many months too. Guest guest
To save energy I squeeze lemons and freeze juice in ice cube containers so it is easy to get a cube or 2 of juice to jolly up fish etc without lemons going bad. I also grate the zest and add some to some cubes to add some tang when thawed. There are some easy recipes on the mechat website http://www.mechat.co.uk/db/recipes.htm any with Von in front I can do myself tho I need my carers to dish it up and get a drink for me etc as I cannot stand upright longer than a few secs but I can put stuff on a tray to prepare in bed or on bean bag on floor and put things in oven for them to dish up thank goodness and I do extra and freeze some. The carers are only allowed to use a microwave and it is nice to do stuff from fresh if poss. NB also there are more energy saving tips here: http://www.mechat.co.uk/db/tips.htm Von x
