Guest guest
Why can't I get any easy questions lately, LOL? Honestly, Cary and Alan, I'm still digesting the experience. I also don't want to spoil anything for others here who haven't seen it and plan on doing so. It'll be nice if I can avoid causing trouble on the list over this, too! But I can say, as someone who was raised in a Catholic household and attended Catholic schools from first grade through college but now feels distanced from the church but not God, that I felt compelled to see it, especially after following the controversy sparked by the film. For me, it is an important film and perspective. The charges of anti-Semitism are unfounded, I think. I don't believe that Catholicism is the only true religion or any such thing. I know and love Jews, there are Jews in my family, my mother's side is most likely Jewish somewhere not too far back, and Jesus himself was a Jew. I didn't get the sense that Gibson's intent was to harm Jews with the film. I abhor violence and there was plenty of that in the movie, but I understand why Gibson chose to go that way. It was necessary according to his vision. I do wish that those who are unfamiliar with the Bible and haven't seen the film would refrain from commenting, LOL! Some people have said some very irresponsible things. The personal attacks on Mel Gibson are unfortunate and unfair. It's an imperfect work, but powerful. I'll tell you where to go! Thanks for sharing, ...I know religion related things are always tricky to comment on. Cary
