Guest guest
: 10 1/2 months is NOT too old! Some babies are casted at 18 months! You may not see results as quickly as if he were younger, but 's head should benefit! Good luck! Guest guest
, You have to go with your instincts as far as whether or not you want to treat him. 10 and a half months is NOT too late. You can use the band up until 2 years. For us the decision was whether or not we wanted to spare our son future teasing about having an assymetrical face, ears, etc. You would do braces for crooked teeth, so why not a crooked noggin? I hope this helps! Ann ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! Try it today - there's no risk! Guest guest
Ann, You are completely right! The doctors though keep saying that when he's two or three years old it will be the same if he has the band or not. Do you know if plagio progressively gets worse? Guest guest
, that depends on whether or not he varies his sleep position now. Our son still primarily sleeps on his right side, although he does alternate some, so his was staying the same or getting worse. However, if your son doesn't have a favorite position and is sitting, crawling, and in other words not spending all of his time on his back anymore, I wouldn't think it would worsen. You can try repositioning, like turning him over once he is asleep, but that did not work for us: he would just turn right back. He is 8 and a half months old and has had his band for 3 weeks and we can already see improvement. Also, the surgeon we saw said that if it has not improved by 6-9 months, they recommend treatment. His theory was that by that time they are sitting, possibly crawling, etc. and would have given it ample time to correct itself. Keep us posted on what you decide! Guest guest
We were also told that ours was mild and then at casting CT said mild to moderate. BTW we received band at exactly 11 mos and things look good, 10 1/2 mos is NOT too late. Anyway, even though it is mild(and therefore peds won't help with getting insurance to pay) - as far as I am concerned it is a presense/absense issue - who cares how mild or severe - the presense is the issue. Also, many people on this site have had peds tell them that it was mild and nothing to worry about, etc. and have the child turn out to be very severe when dx by people that really know. I'm sure alot of people here got the same run around and could never tell how serious things were because there are so many opinions. Do what you want to do. As far as I'm concerned - if it was my head, I would want it tx. The bad news I've heard recently though is that the facial asy and ear algn are gambles(as far as correction) so we may be paying $3000 for nothing except the back rounding out which is still really ok. -liz (sorry, don't get me started today - I'm so pissed over this stuff right now, when are doctors gonna be held accountable for their screw ups and forced to quit experimenting on us and our babies?!) ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: " Baran " <mary@...> Reply-Plagiocephalyegroups Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2000 22:48:49 -0500 >> Hello, >> >> Our son is 10 1/2 months old and was just casted for the band >today. >> The orthotist was quite pessimistic about expecting much progress if any >at >> his age. Guest guest
Ann Thanks for all of the info. I'm glad to hear that it's helping your son! I wish that the pediatritions were more educated in this subject. Ours blew us off until I became adament about getting help. ----- Original Message ----- From: KENT A <kanswede@...> <Plagiocephalyegroups> Sent: Friday, June 16, 2000 11:18 AM Subject: Re: Is 10 1/2 months old too old for the band? > , that depends on whether or not he varies his sleep position now. > Our son still primarily sleeps on his right side, although he does > alternate some, so his was staying the same or getting worse. Guest guest
Kimry Thanks, we're paying the entire amount because no doctor wansts to write a medical necessity letter - SHOCKER! considering they don't know anything about the band and failed to tell us about pp in the first place. Anyway, what did it do with her eye? liz ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: AAKARA@... Guest guest
Kimry Lil doesn't have the extra fold buit she has some asy in her right eye and nostril pulls up. Just had plastic surgeon tell me that we won't get any or littl;e change in that because he says there is little to change - I guess he meant the little bit of bossing on that side of her forehead. Plus I thinki the changes in the front occur in a sense on an axis with the chin so that lower asy will not get as much change. So i'm bummed. PLMK the info again - we started band at 11 mos only in 3 weeks now. also, funny the CT said the facial asy would be helped. thanks - liz ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: AAKARA@...
