Guest guest
To add some more tidbits: Many women in my myomectomy support group have complained of " post partam blues " (their exact words) after their myomectomies. Solvents and many petroleum products are easily absobed through the skin and concentrate in the liver, damaging it. Automobile mechanics have a high rate of cancer and it is believed to be ralated to their exposure. The liver is responsible for the conversion of various sex hormones. Estrogen compounds are not properly broken down by the liver of women with fibroids according to one study I have. Tish
Guest guest
Finally! I found the item about the pregnant fibroid research. It was a short paragraph from a newsgroup listing a summary of a conference in Oct. of scientists doing various kinds of research on the causes & behavior of fibroids. A couple of the papers presented theorized on the idea of fibroids acting 'pregnant'. Not really clear to the layperson, but at least that research is going on. For good or bad, this particular study seems to be at the rat level....anyway, NY at Stony Brook has someone working on it, as does the Nat'l Inst. of Environmental Health Sci.. who sponsored the conference. The tone of the article was positive, saying that research into fibroids has been neglected since they were considered benign, but now, more is being learned. So, at least some scientists are thinking along the same lines as -- and isn't it funny how many " :old wives tales " turn out to be true, like the home remedies that work. Maybe the body has a heightened response to hormones when there are fibroids present??? Just like it is impossible to lose weight when you're on the pill. Could you post a link to this? The only conference I know of was the NIEHS one in October. But, I'd like to see what the newsgroup listing said. > A couple of the papers presented theorized on the idea of fibroids acting > 'pregnant'. Lots of research was presented Lots going on in the way of determining the developmental biology of fibroids, hormones and growth factors of fibroids, environmental influences, developing experimental modes (in animals), and developing techniques/strategies for treating fibroids. The next 5 years will prove to be most interesting in the developmental research into fibroids and the female reproductive/sexual system. I have great hopes anyway. I didn't see a paper from anyone from Stony Brook in my material from NIEHS -- but I did see probably the rat study you're referring to...do you have any more information on this NY study?
