Guest guest
Well, today was a tad rough as I had to take my oldest son (Chris...13 but will be 14 on the 17th) back to school. He was accepted @ the Milton Hershey Academy last year and has truly excelled earning high honors and numerous merit badges. It is a rather large sacrifice for both myself and my wife and will only deepen if our youngest gets accepted as he wishes to go also. The great thing about that school is the limitless opportunities, and IF you graduate you have a minimum of $87,500.00 for college which I could never provide any longer. In addition they have a full menu of sports available and even though is 13 he is 5'9 1/2 " and a rock solid 193 lbs. He has always been an over-achiever in football and wrestling and last year joined the track team and took 2nd in districts on the Discus. Aside from being a bit sad the trip that usually takes 90 minutes or so took 4.5 hours...just to go down. It is only 108 miles away and very close to my RD's office so I have made this journey countless times with my record of 48 minutes to get home one day (I love when traffic is flying! Pick some Bear Bait...give them a few hundred yard lead and go like a bat out of hell!) We sat in construction traffic bumper to bumper for close to 3.55 hours!!!! Only in Pa do they make you merge where it goes from multiple lanes to one....if everyone would stay in the open lane only it would take no more than 30 minutes to clear it. By the time we got him there (2 hours late) I was barely able to stand and now I sit at my damn computer writing this as I can't lie down without feeling excruciating pain. I was praying that I would be able to go on without getting another morphine pump implant but it isn't looking to promising at the moment..even though it was very warm and humid all day...which is when I feel my best. Add to that it costs me $40.00 round trip so I'm bone dry for a while...which is becoming common these days. The economy is bad enough but with all of the problems I've had all year I haven't been able to do much in the way of side work. Tomorrow I FINALLY get back into coaching youth football which has been a passion of mine for close to a dozen years now. I must be doing something right as I have a lot of parents thank me and another town recruited me to run their " A " team as the town I've coached for the past 10+ years didn't have enough people to fill an A team, and I personally helped each and every coach there now (except one who has been there fr almost 30 years) get the coaching positions they now have and I don't think it fair to them for me to come back into their fold, even though I was welcomed to coach two of the three teams they have. I just pray I'm able to do this as 1) I really like it 2) It keeps my mind off of the pain, even though I tend to overdo it as I am a very " Hands-on " type of coach. I will be mentioning the medication Harry brought up to me (NUSYNTA?) to my PCP as I am not a huge fan of narcotic pain meds, even though I've been able to use the responsibly for close to 10 years... I just don't like having them around as a few people have actually had the balls to ask me for some over the years and one of my best friends' girlfriend turns out to be a pill popper. This guy is a teacher, very intelligent and can't see the forest through the trees. I know love is blind but this is a bit ridiculous! Oh well, time for the heating pad and ice and a prayer or two to hopefully get some sleep. Later, Kirk. -- Everything in life sucks except things that should!
