Guest guest
- Thank you for the information on Shingles. I get them alot. I got them last October- started on my breastbone, across that side of my chest, under the arm and on my back. The Dr. had to put my on a duragesic patch to be able to tolerate the pain from this attack. (This was also when he (we) decided that it was not good for me to be working and start the paperwork for social security disability). I have had bouts of them for the last 10 years, but have only been diagnosed with RA and MCTD for the last 2 years. I just associate it with stress or lowered immunity - I usually get them after I have been sick-or under severe stress- kind of a surprise package with pain in top # & $*)!@ Carol M. in CA
Guest guest
You're welcome, Carol. Sorry that you've had so many shingles attacks. I have heard and read about how painful it can be in adults. For you, does the rash come out in about the same location each time? Just wondering. I had the chickenpox in college, which was awful, but, luckily, have never had shingles yet. My teenage daughter had shingles a couple of years ago and it freaked me out. When I saw the rash on her stomach, I couldn't believe my eyes. I knew it was shingles. I've looked at too many dermatology pictures, LOL. Her doctor confirmed it. Thankfully, she had very little pain and it resolved pretty quickly. I hope it doesn't mean there is something wrong with her immune system. Her pediatrician tried to reassure me that she occasionally sees it in children and that it need not be an ominous sign, but it still bugs me. My daughter appears to be very healthy, but I still worry. I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
, The shingles are usually somewhere near my spine-they always lead toward my back bone. I have many scars on my skin from the scabbing, etc. Unless they are unusually painful, they are just part of my life. I have a standing Rx for Famvir and use it when they start. I tried low dose daily intake, but it really turned my stomach inside out. I saw a Neurologist because my Dr. thought I had Carpel Tunnel - he is doing nerve conduction tests and MRI tests on my back. He has put me on Neurontin, started taking 300 mg per day and am now up to 900 mg per day -but it really helps with alot of my pain. My hands, wrists and forearms are extremely painful and almost unbearable by night time, this drug does help. The Neurologist says I have severy muscle atrophy in my hands and thumb, plus little cold recognition - this is why is have not written more - it is very hard. Again, thank you for all the information - it really helps, Gentle Hugs & Prayers, Carol M. in CA
