Thanks for your response, Karin. My E was down to .02 (I guess almost non-existent- which explains why I felt like a wilting flower). I only started on the patch this past Sunday, and was instructed to change it every 3.5 days. I am going to do it every 3 days, though, b/c I certainly don't want to experience that mouth thing again!

You say you change your patch when you "notice it wears off". How do you notice that? What symptoms do you have?

I still have not decided whether or not I should take any P, whether I should cycle it, give myself "periods" or what. This whole thing is SO confusing. I would really like to be basing my treatment on actual studies and research (rather than instinct and trial and error), but there seems to be precious little out there.

E.

How often do you change the patch? I change mine every 2 days because that is when I notice it wears off. I have never gotten the tongue thing but my sister in law had a Dr tell her to go off E cold turkey and her tongue swelled and her mouth was as dry as the desert. Sounds like you might need the E pretty bad and you might want to change the patch more frequently.KarinGet fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today.

E.,

I cycle my progesterone because I do not feel well wile I am taking

progesterone. If you are one of the women who likes the way they feel

on progesterone, then you may decide to take it every day. If you are

like me, you may find that progesterone makes you tired, hungry,

irritable... so you may choose to cycle it.

My mother got endometrial cancer after taking unopposed Premarin. I

am hoping that taking progesterone will help prevent what happed to my

mother. Since I have a uterus that I want to keep, I cycle

progesterone occasionally if I do not ovulate.

I take vaginal progesterone. I have found though trial and error that

I get less side effects from vaginal progesterone than oral. Oral

progesterone gives me a hangover the next day. I do not take topical

progesterone because studies have shown that it does not protect the

uterus as well as oral or vaginal.

You can read progesterone studies on Pub Med. Just search for words

like progesterone or Crinone or Prometrium. What I have found reading

different studies is that women are different, some like oral

progesterone, some like vaginal, some prefer to cycle and some prefer

continuous. You will not know what group you are in until you try

different methods.

I'll chime in here to say that I started out using 200 mg a day of

Prometrium, continuously, and at first I loved it because it helped me

sleep MUCH better...and I didn't experience any of the bad side effects

that others speak of.

However, because others warned that it might build up in the tissues

and get worse over time, I was on guard, watching for signs of

encroaching side effects.

And after two or three months (I forget, now), I did start to feel that

I was becoming groggier the next day...and perhaps a bit more irritable

or SLIGHTLY depressed (it was subtle and hard to know for sure if it

was the Prometrium); I also thought I could see an increase in

carb/sugar cravings.

So I cut back from continuous to cycling 14 on/14 off. And ultimately I

then went to 100 mg instead of 200 mg, 14 on/14 off. This still gives

me a period, although I don't know for sure if it protects my lining

enough. I'm going to check/discuss this at my next gyn appt. in August.

It's been interesting to try and watch/analyze these subtle body clues,

and it's not easy to do when there are so many other possible factors

involved in sleep issues, cravings, etc. But I feel fairly sure that

I've gone in the right direction for ME, and that ultimately the doctor

can't tell me what will work best; I have to figure it out myself.

Mostly I know it is low by how I sleep. And when I pull it off especially if I

have been

sweating or swimming it has a kind of worn out look to the patch and very little

adhesive.

Do you still have your ovaries? I do not take any P because my ovaries are

making enough

for now on their own. I also go to my gyn every 4-5months and have a vaginal

ultrasound

to make sure there is no build up. I get my period every 28days and I am the

most regular

I have ever been in my life (47yrs) I think it is due to Vitamin D and calcium

and being on

the gluten free diet. I also get my period for a full 5 days w/cramps on day 2.

I have a

sister in law that does not take P also and is on Viville .075, is 50 and really

does not get

her period at all and has had no lining build up. She is also on high Vit D and

calcium

along w/thyroid meds.
