Italian's not one of my proper languages, but I'd hazard a guess that

" caotico per Fa " referring to heart rhythm might be " irregular/arrhythmic,

due to atrial fibrillation "

Hi Dawn,

I can confirm that in " Caotico per Fa " , " Fa " stands for atrial fibrillation.

" Sugg, ber. digit. " : " sugg " may be " suggest, suggestion, suggested " and

" digit. " should refer to digitalis, but I cannot figure out anything for " ber. "

I am working on a long translation of a study on aging and now, at

the end, have 5 words or phrases that I either cannot figure out or

am unsure of. I am hoping someone can help shed some light on these.

1. Under the section on the ECG, where the examiner is supposed to

check off characteristics that are present in the test subject,

under " Ritmo " , one of the items is " Caotico per Fa " . The other items

are " sinusale " , " indotto da Pace Maker " , etc. I have not figure

out " caotico per Fa " .

2. Also in the ECG section, under " Fase di ripolarizzazione " , one of

the items is " Sugg. ber. digit. / disturbi elettr. " I cannot figure

out " Sugg. ber. digit. "

3. Under the section on the cardiovascular examination: " Soffi

cardiaci: diastolico __/6 Lev, sistolico __/6 Lev " Does " Lev " refer

to the grade of heart murmur?

4. Under " Segni clinici di stasi o ipoperfusione agli arti

inferiori " , once of the signs is " fibrodermite retraente (quadro

similsclerodermico). " Can I say " retracting fibrosing dermatitis " ?

Hi ,

Thank you so much for the input. The copy I have is really bad - it could be

" sugg. ter. digit. " Could it be " treatment with digitalis suggested " - or

even " influenced by therapy with digitalis " (sugg. = suggiestionato ?). Then

" disturbi elettr. " would be " electrolyte imbalance " making the whole phrase

" influenced by digitalis therapy / electrolyte imbalance. " Does this make

sense in the context of repolarization problems?

Hi Dawn,

surely it is " ter. " , not " ber. " ; " sugg. " stands for " suggerito/a " (proposed), so

" Suggerita terapia digitalica " . Regarding " dist. elettr. " IMHO it's hard to tell

if this means " disturbi elettrolitici " or " disturbi elettrici " , in fact

" ripolarizzazione " is an electrical event, but, as you may know cardiac

electrical events depend on electrolite balance (or imbalance!), of Na/K/Ca

in/out the cardiac cell.

Hi Graham,

Yes, I am sure on this one. Unfortunately, there have been some other issues

with spelling, as well as unclear sentences in the Italian due to mistakes,

but I have been able to figure out most of these. Maybe the answer lies in

which skin condition is a sign of stasis or hypoperfusion...
