Guest guest
Hi all, As you may know from some other writings, my dad had moved in with us. His move in with us leaves a fully furnished 4 bedroom home calling out to be emptied. My dad has been allowing the grand children to select any of the furniture they wanted and has elected to toss anything that doesn't fit in his new home with us. My sister had already taken what she wanted months and months ago and my nieces and nephew had finished their selections, and now it was up to my children. This was like free shopping heaven for my 3rd daughter, who is will be getting married in January and is actively in the process of purchasing their first home. Of course, she allowed everyone else to stake their claim first, and accepted anything and everything else remaining. My dad's only catch of the give-away has been that they need to move it out themselves. Of course, I had helped my nephew with some of the larger tool boxes, but, it wasn't the same as moving lots of furniture. Last night, my daughter and her fiancé loaded up the first couple of small truck loads, with my help. I remember the stress and strain of moving furniture years ago, when I was a lot younger. My last larger furniture movement has been about 5 years ago, and prior to that, maybe 10 years and even prior to that, 15 years. Each time, I remember the strain and stress, imbalance, awkward clumsiness, and exhaustion that coupled each of the furniture moves. And of course, I was younger to much younger at those times. I was not looking forward to this. Well, as it turns out, after the first two small truck loads, I was roaring for more and can't wait to finish the balance. I found that my perceived added strength was very much real and I can actually use it for a real life purpose. I found that my cardio efforts have also allowed me a much easier time of running up and down the steps. I was no where near exhausted. I found losing that 100+ pounds of fat had improved my speed and balance. I was able to take the ramps, balance on the trailer hitch, bounce onto the truck bumper and onto the truck bed with the greatest of ease. The younger ones would jump down off the truck to the street, but, with my bad knees, I was still cautious of the impact associated with the jumping down off the truck, so I simply stepped up and down via the hitch & bumper, and that did NOT tire or wear me out in the least. So, there you have it... Tangible, real life benefits of performing BFL over the last 3+ years. Sure, performing BFL activities provides for the mental feel good and we all know how much better we feel physically, but this was an event that I was able to 1st hand recognize the benefits of being fit and healthy. YES! There is a difference. I feel... Better than I felt in my early 40's! Better than I felt in my early 30's. And, likely even better than I felt in my early 20's. I am very happy about that. I've had a very busy work schedule that forced a number of missed workouts these past couple of weeks, but, this furniture move and the way I feel now about it, has encouraged me to get back on track and reinstall the BFL routines into the very fabric of my everyday life. I'm now looking forward to the next bunch of truck loads! Loving life, I remain...
