Guest guest
Well, it's a go!!!!! I had my consult yesterday. The NP said I was the most prepared patient they had ever had (probably has something to do with the briefcase bulging with 2 years of medical records from 11 different doctors!) : ) We had a great & thorough talk. My next appt. is March 12, when I will receive my surgery date (or I'll receive it the next Monday, March 15)....and the surgery will be in mid April to early May!!! I have some labs to get, an appointment with the bariatric dietician, and possibly a couple more tests. They are encouraging me to begin a post-op type eating plan now (lean protein, lots of fruits & veggies, yogurt) as they like folks to drop 15 pounds or so prior to surgery to shrink the liver a bit. The NP was great...we even talked about a VERY frightening subject...growing attention from the opposite sex! YIKES! There were some very serious subjects - a possibility of a day or two in ICU on a vent just because they want to be careful, and the remote possibility of a week or so in a rehab center if I have trouble getting up or wound problems. I don't think any of this will be necessary, but I must face the possibility. These do frighten me. I will be having the BPD/DS (biliopancreatic diversion with lateral sleve gasectromy and duodenal switch) which makes your stomach about 4 ounces but keeps all the natural function of the stomach intact including the pyloric valve. Then the small intestine is shortened to cause some malabsorption. It will be an open, rather than laproscopic surgery. I'm happy, scared & excited all at the same time!!! Don't quit praying for me, please! Thank you all for being with me through this. All my love.... Tess
